New to the forum, I've read a lot of good insight so far - Thanks! Little back ground first - small property but a lot of 'projects' over the next two years that a small machine would come in real handy (at least I've convinced myself of that, and I think the boss is on board). I've looked at renting and I'm guessing that would cost me ~$2500 over the two years. I'm also thinking if I have a machine, I'll be able to do more. I'm going to look at a used privately owned BX23 ~250hrs / 2006ish and the dealer has a BX25D with 20hrs / 2yr warranty. So my questions are what are the big differences between the 23 & 25 - would I notice anything? There is roughly a $4500 price difference - any thoughts as to whether I would lose more on one or the other if I sold in 2-3 years (I think value retention is more important to me than overall price)? They seem to hold their value but I'd have a 9-10 yr old machine vs a 2-3 yr old machine to sell.

Thanks

You will notice very little difference as far as appearance and capability between the 2 of them. Now, I've just bought my 17th Kubota in a bit over 10 years so I do have some experience in trading. Your not telling price to determine if your getting a decent deal price wise and that's OK. Guess that gets to making or giving advise with only part of the info and that's also OK. Will you get $4500 for a BX25 vs a BX23 I guess is your question on resale with both machines in same condition but one (BX23) having 230 more hours than the BX25.
There is a BX24 series between those two model years but I'd prefer the BX23 over a BX24 because of the 50 series BXs problems. I don't think you would get $4500 more for the BX25 but it may be close. If your rough then the warranty may have some value to you but these two machines are pretty rugged and hard to break. :2cents:

There is that much difference for us when selling a 25 vs the 23 and a good possibility of more with much of it depending on condition.

Thanks - the BX25D is a dealer demo/light rental, the BX23 is single owner (light homeowner use) both appear in excellent condition. I'm going to look at the newer one tomorrow - I don't have sales prices yet - the 2013 BX25D w/20 hrs is roughly $16500 and the 2006 BX23 w/250hrs is roughly $12500. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, 2-3 years from now when I go to sell, will they have lost the same value or would one depreciate more? Thanks

The $16500 is near new price at Barlows (yes, I bought one). If your financing then a new one for 0% for 60 months is a better deal.
If your paying cash the BX23 is a better deal here, don't know about in New York because their market and prices people will pay is quite different than here in Ky. The new tractor will drop a couple of thousand off the lot and then slow drop or maybe no further drop depending on the increase in price for new ones which do increase in price about every year. This slow to no dropping will apply to the previous years and models which is one of the reasons tractors don't always cost a lot of money for ownership. There are many people that get what they paid back for a tractor due to decent purchase price and care of the tractor and increases in price by the manufacturer.
There will be no to nearly no difference in performance between the BX23 and BX25.
Currently the biggest factor between new and near new tractors is the 0 down 0% 60 months financing offered by the selling Company. That can easily be worth/cost $2000 to $3000 or more/less depending on purchase price. There is a small rebate/discount for cash buyers on some models of Kubotas.
Check asking prices in your area on Craigslist and check Tractorhouse for asking prices on BX23s and BX25s. I'd buy new from Barlows myself and then your only out the monthly payment for the period of time you use it and then sell it or keep it. People love the idea of buying a used tractor for ONLY whats owed on it. :)

Thanks! Bought the demo model with 19hrs added thumb, 3 point hitch, landscape rake for 17250 seemed fair based on the ones I looked at nearby (includes full factory warranty),got 700 rebate. Brand new one was another 1100. Thanks again for your input. Now I just have to wait until Friday!

Are you up and running now? You bought exactly what I did, the thumb, 3pt, and rake to go along. Loving it all after 100hrs of use this summer.

Congrats on the new BX25D. You will enjoy it. Now, go use some of that $700 rebate and buy a skidplate from BXpanded if you are ever going to be in the woods or brush. It will save you a lot of aggravation that would come with a thrashed transmission fan. While you're at it, might as well buy the BXpanded Piranha Tooth Bar too. It is highly recommended by many on TBN.

Hey Poopy, you are right on... get the skid plate (if needed), the wheel spacers and the best yet, the PTB!!! We can spend your money. :D But not kidding on these must have add ons.

Thanks. Still waiting on delivery, had condensation behind the glass of the gauge panel so the dealer wanted to replace before delivery. Hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday. I've been looking at the bxpanded stuff - skid plate and bucket hooks are on Santa's list.
