OK, Game on, this is my first thread that I started, I think. I usually only post if I can add positive information on other posts. Now I need help, My BX2660 is now taking longer to engage the PTO. Initially it was a delay of a couple seconds, maybe 2-3. Now I am waiting 7-8 seconds. is there an adjustment or something? What is going on? Is this abnormal? How long does your BX take? Obviously, I am probably out of warranty (I think). I have had an earlier version of this tractor (BX2230) and it was so robust that there was never a concern.

In advance-Thank you very much

Sorry I can't help diagnose the problem, but as a reference, I can offer that the PTO on my BX2660 engages imediately with no real delay.

My BX1860 PTO also engages just about immediately. I only currently use the mid PTO for a mid mount mower.

Like RTII, engagement on my BX2660 is instantaneous. The only thing I can think of is if over time engagement by the operator is really slow the clutch will wear, but that is just a wild guess.

I am assuming that you have already checked your linkage.

Well, just took trip to stop by the dealer, and to my surprise they are not open today. I'll so spend some time with my tractor this afternoon looking over the linkage. if northing's obvious and nobody has any suggestions it will have to wait until Monday. Don't really need to use it before than anyway. There is nothing in the owners manual to address this either.

Just throwing stuff out here, but have you tried the selector in all three positions to see if this makes any difference whether it is the MM or RM or combination. Also have you checked your deck belts?

A couple of things come to mind as the mid point PTO is instantaneous in start up;

Transmission oil filter-
Oil level in the transmission-

after you break the suction from the dipstick-
wait a few minutes to check it after lifting the
dip stick to obtain the true oil level.

Grass build up on the top of the mower deck-

possibly affecting the throw of the tension pulley
and as the belt speeds up it allows the spring to
pull and grip more.

When was the last time the tension pulley was greased?

Drive belt/driven belt tension-

It could very well be the belt(s) are shot and it
takes a bit longer to grip the pulleys at start up
as they are stretched and the tension pulley moves more
until it finds its equilibrium.

If the mower bangs a lot while mowing that would be the cross belt tensioner is bouncing while under load and you need a new belt or two new belts.

The Gates green heavy duty belts are the best belts for the shock load and are worth every penny.

Appreciate all of the comments.

Just went out to check tractor after your comments. I tried the tractor in all three positions. Rear only, I can observe the shaft and when engaged the shaft terns right away, but at a slower speed and than after the stated delay of about 7 seconds snaps up to full speed. In the lower and both position, I can not physically see the shafts due to operator safety switches requiring me to be physically parked on the seat. There is still the 7 second delay before the deck engages, with or with out the rear shaft engaged.

I don't think this has any issue with the mower deck itself. deck is like new and all belts are tight.

Deck is like new, reciently greased and belts are tight. Very clean with no grass build up. Don't think there is any issue with the deck as after further investigation, this is happening in all three positions of the PTO. Checked transmission level yesterday and it reads full on the stick. As for the gates Green belts though-you are right and those are definately the ticket!

I am glad you are happy with the gates belts as they will give you excellent service life.

as you will obvoisly be be putting you mower in moth balls for the winter I would take the belts off and put them in a bg zip lock freezer bag over the winter to reduce any ozone damage during the off season.
