Have you guys had the left front rim actually break around where the lug bolts hold it on? My other three rims are doing just fine. A dealer used a battery powered hand-held drill(?) to install two of the lug nuts that had fallen out. Get to cutting grass and one of those backed out, with the rim actually broken around 3 of the lug nuts. Is this bizarre or what?

Thanks,
David

Not bizarre actually but more common than you would like to think on tractors, cars trucks.

It sounds like the lug nuts were either not tight or had come loose before, damaged the wheel tapered holes slightly, and then was going to continually come loose and should have been replaced much sooner after the first time it came loose for the second time in a short period. The tapered lug nut holes in the wheel do a lot of the centering of the wheel on the axle and damage to the tapered surface should not be overlooked.

Battery powered impact tools are common now and they are not drills but powerful & expensive tools. However, a wise mechanic always checks after with a real torque wrench.

As an owner, you should be periodically checking wheel lug torque & FEL mounting bolts. All of these work loose and need to be re tightened. A new tractor needs this done at an early service. You should be doing it any time a component is removed and re installed such as a wheel.

Along with a new wheel you should be getting new lug nuts and also studs if that is the system on your tractor.

Those lug nuts were tightened just that morning when the two lug bolts were replaced. The bolts had never gotten loose in 108 hours/8 years of ownership. Yes, I did the routine PM's the day before but ignored the lug nuts for some reason. Ignoring them cost me more than $85, dang it. Again, they had NEVER been a problem before. In retrospect, I had never stressed them that much before, either. <sigh> Hindsight reveals all errors. :)
The wheel had never had to be replaced before. No lug nuts on the BX2660.
Thanks, Dave.
