I got some new 5/16 x 2 1/4 shear bolts from dealer(70060-01338) for my BX2750 blower, and the specs call for torque of 17 to 20.5 ft pounds. I set mine at 19 ft #
I also drained and refilled the worm gear box with 80-90W Mercury marine lower unit lube. The stuff that came out was nasty looking. Surprised me to see a pressure relief valve on gear box. Maybe thats how moisture got in:confused: I think I'll make that a yearly PM, easy enough to do.

My neighbor hasn't broken a pin since I put the question out there, but it's mostly because it hasn't snowed since then! :) Might have to wait until next winter to see whether his adjustments, based on TBN input, work out for the better. Thanks, Dyer, retired

I know this is a VERY old thread, but maybe this will help someone.

TL;DR: my BX2750 snowblower was killing shear pins because the skid shoes were reversed, pointed backwards.

When we had a paved driveway, I only broke one or two shear pins while using the BX2750 snowblower. I bought a BX2200 and the BX2750 in June 2000. In late 2012, we moved to a new place with a gravel driveway. This driveway is only half the length of the old paved one.

I broke several shear pins in the first use of the BX2750 on gravel. I dropped the skid shoes and tried again. Now I was leaving a lot of snow and still using up the shear pin supply. I parked the Kubota and started using just a Toro walk-behind snowblower for the gravel driveway. The Toro has a strong gearbox and NO shear pins to break. It was throwing small stones, but no shear pin worries.

When I was doing maintenance on the Kubota snowblower, I looked at the manual so I could remove the chute and clean/grease under it. The dealer that sold me everything back in year 2000 had installed the skid shoes backwards! It still worked fine on pavement but was very wrong for gravel. I had always done normal maintenance but had never needed to look up the skid shoes in the parts manual or the operator's manual.

The correct position for the L-shaped skid shoes on the back of the BX2750 has the horizontal piece going forward, under the sheet metal housing. The bottom of the skid shoe is under the housing box and points towards the cutting edge. It was originally delivered, with the L-shape of the skid shoe pointing backwards, where you can easily see the horizontal piece. That puts a larger distance between the weight-bearing skid shoe and the cutting edge. On a rough gravel driveway, with up-and-down pitches, the cutting edge can dig into high spots and feed more stones to attack the shear pins.

Except for extra wear on the cutting edge because it took more of the unit's weight, there was no downside to having the "L" skid shoes
reversed. Until the gravel driveway exposed the problem. Feel like an idiot for never noticing they were reversed, but the BX2750 always did a great job - on pavement - for twelve years.

I am pretty sure the Kubota dealer had not sold many BX products by June 2000, when I bought mine. The BX2200 is serial number 54182. The BX2750A serial number is 2000280.
