As my tractor rode off on the flat bed truck, I wondered if I would ever see it again. I wanted to follow it to the dealer, but I had to get to work; I was already late.

This isn't a normal feeling a tractor owner has when he sends his tractor off for the 50hr service. In fact, I am very proud to say that the only problem I had, was that I lost a bolt off the FEL joystick cowl within the first two hours of operation.

So what happened?

The service guy from the dealership arrived to pick up Iggy on time, so far so good, I actually recognized him from when he delivered my tractor. He's a likeable guy, during the original delivery he took the time to ensure I understood all of the controls and felt comfortable with the operation of the tractor before he left. Today, he had the same reassuring smile, commented on my chains, and talked tractor a little bit before he hopped aboard Iggy. Being the observant type, or so I thought, he noticed the key wasn't in the ignition. "No problem," he said, "all of the Boomers have the same type of key." He pull a key off of his ring and tried it, nope, that's not the one, he tried another, but that didn't fit either. I quickly hurried into the house to grab the proper key. I handed him my key, and he proceeded to insert it into the ignition. He then had a puzzled look, bent over and looked at the ignition...the tumbler assembly was gone. He got off of the tractor, walked around and looked into the hole where the core used to be. He said he must have pushed through hole. He popped the hood, but there wasn't any access. "Don't worry," he said, "we'll fix that up at the shop, but I need to back down your driveway and turn the truck around, and we'll just use the winch." While he was driving down the driveway, I took a closer look at my missing ignition key core. Upon his return, I pointed out that the core couldn't have been pushed through, since there isn't hole to be pushed through. He doubted what said, and stated that the core is what is blocking the hole. I pointed out the core was stainless steel, and the back of the hole was black. O.K., where's the core? I looked around on the ground, but a lightbulb seemed to appear over his head, because with a surprised look, he reached down into his pocket and pulled out the core, with a key jammed into it. "Don't worry, we have plenty of these at the shop. We'll take care of it."

Next, he lowered the ramp of the flatbed truck and winched the tractor onto the truck. He looped a chain around the front axle of the tractor, but not wanting to bend over to hook up the chain he decided to raise the ramp. When the ramp raised off of the ground, his truck started rolling down the driveway. He sprintedto the cab and stopped the truck after a short uncontrolled trip of about 15 feet.

Returning to his original plan, he continued to level the flat bed ramp, but now the truck was pointing downhill on my driveway, so when the ramp went level on the truck, my tractor started rolling towards the front off the truck. A shocked look came across his face, and he grabbed the chain that was looped around the front axle. Now I can't imagine he would have been able to stop better than 2 tons of tractor from rolling down a hill, but the other end of the chain wasn't attached to anything. So, the tractor took about 10 ft uncontrolled trip until the rear tires hit the vertical frame at the front of the ramp. No damage.

Needless to say, he was embarrassed, and he assured me that I would get my tractor back in one piece, and if it didn't, they would give me a new one. I laughed it off at that moment, but as he drove down the driveway, I wondered if I would ever see Iggy again.

Sometimes it's better if you don't watch. Sounds like this guy is having a bad day (@ Iggy's expense).

I feel the same way about my tractor and dealer. I'm currently repairing what looks like where battery acid, or something else corrosive splashed on a portion of my rear wheel on my 40D when it was in their shop last winter. They where doing the often discussed battery overflow repair (new radiator, battery tray, hydro hoses, etc) and had the tractor over a month waiting supposedly for the new radiator. I didn't notice any problem with the wheel all summer long but probably since I finally just washed it, it wasn't evident. I'm thinking maybe they set the battery on the wheel but splashed out some acid in the process, then let it set. Whatever happened it ate right through the paint and started rusting the rim. You can even see the center of the splash, and then where it sprayed out from there. The paint discolored, then pitted and then the wheel rusted. Cleaned it up and put the first coat of paint on yesterday and it's looking pretty good, but I didn't need something else to do. Gotta make you wonder, eh BigDave, when they can't even get the tractor off your site without incedent. Hope all is well from here on.

I also have had a bad experience with my dealership. The dealership has two locations, a north store and a south store. I bought the tractor from the north store, which performed the predelivery service, installed the rear remotes, and the rear facing flood light. The south store came to pick up the tractor for its 50 hour sevice and to check out the glow plugs which weren't working. I hadn't the noticed that the glow plug light wasn't working because I haven't needed them during the summer. The south store called me to ask if I had installed the rear flood light myself or if the north store did before delivery. The problem with the glow plugs was that when the north store installed the flood light they removed the fuse for the glow plugs, left it out, and stuck in the wires from the flood light for power! The south store replaced the glow plug fuse and wired the lights to the provided accesory lighting fuse. The mechanic along with myself were struck with disbelief at the unacceptable workmanship. I just got my tractor back and will be making a call to the service manager at the north store. Makes me wonder if they even did the predelivery service or hooked up the remotes correctly.

I think I can top your bad experience !!!!!!!!!! I ordered my TC40D on oct 31 from a NH dealer I've dealt with for 2 years. Gave them a cashiers check for 1/3 down when I signed the purchase order.....On Nov 10th I got a letter from the dealer stating as of Nov. 8th the store was closed for business..[NOT HAPPY!!!!!]..I called NH's toll free # in GA and began to smoke out......I was told that my tractor was scheduled to be released to the dealer...That made me feel a bit better ....My next step was to call one of the partners in the dealership and get his word that I would see my tractor.....Long story short......Got tractor 1 week later...with no dealer prep and driver would not take it off the trailer without a cashiers check for the balance.......Worst thing is I have another NH dealer within 10 minutes of my house but the dealer 35 miles away was the best quote.....I'm sure the closer dealer will just love me when I need service......None of the employees at the other dealership had any prior knowledge of the closing!!! They had thrown in the 50 hr. service as part of the deal........ Now I wish I had spent the extra money and dealt closer to home.......TOM

OUCH!!! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif There's an piece philosphopy that I can't quite quote, but it goes something like your problems aren't really that bad, because there's always someone worse off than you. So Tom, you're the guy who's worse off than me, I wonder who has an even sadder story to make your problem seem insignficant?

Dave....I'm just glad I got the tractor....Several employees of the closed DLR did call and apoligize for the ordeal...They got jobs at other NH dealers even further away but said they would help if I need anything.......I guess I should have been tipped off when they wanted certified funds for the deposit....TOM
