Not sure but I think he means the Romanian tractors by UTB. We never carried those machines.

Exactly! They are made in Rumania and I'm wondering if anyone out there knows anything about them. I believe they were imported by Long Tractor for a while and are now Montana's "inexpensive" series.

The are the same as the old Longs were from the photos I have seen. I dont know a lot about the later ones but the early Longs in the 80's and 90's were of the Fiat design and I dont think much changed. Some people in my area liked them and several didnt. I my self have a TYM and a JD and like them very well. I have never owned one of the UTB type tractors to say how good they are. The only thing I can think of is if they were real good why hasnt Long that is now Farm Track kept them in their product line? I would do more research or go with one of the other models.

Just perusing the new website and..........I had forgotten about Montana selling the UTB as their C-Series. They had a pretty good rep' under the Long label and I too am wondering if any amongst the Montana cult have one.

Also, who makes Montana's shredders (rotary cutters)? In particular the 8/10' drag models if they have multiple suppliers.

Whe Escorts of India bought majority ownership in Long, they weeded out the UTB tractors and began selling their own.

I haven't stocked them myself but in some areas, there is a good demand for them. My area is one of 5 to 10 acre plots where smaller tractors are needed and most folks like the HST tractors and love the standard features on the Montana compacts. In an area with larger land and if selling to a guy who is going to do his own repair work, the C series can be a great way to be able to provide a lower cost tractor that has a lot of mass for the buck! Just depends on the area you are in as to how well they are liked.

They are NOT as refined a product as the LS/LG offerings which from a quality standpoint, are as good as any brand on the market. The C series is however a design that has been proved by time to be a tough tractor and there are a heck of a lot of these things in the US.
