2004 NH TC40DA
Hello all, New to the forum and I need some information for an upcoming project. I am the proud owner of a 2004 TC40DA which replaced my hotrodded Allis Chalmers WD45. I have built a large shop/toybox and cleared my 5 acres of property with the old Allis as well as a HD6 tracked endloader (10 tons) The main reason I bought the New Holland was to sell the large older stuff and replace it with a newer hassle free tractor that can do all the maintaining etc, without needing three or more tractors. I have an old Ferguson TO20 for finish mowing, and the Boomer will have the task of maintaining two 1/4 mile gravel driveways here in the middle of Illinois that drift pretty badly. It will also be developing, and maintaining dirt roads for hunting/wood in my adjoining 70 acres of timber. I told you all of that so I could set up the requirements of my project for you fine folks.

1. Cab should be heated and fairly well sealed for winter while running the snowblower (5.5 foot Agro trend with modified snow wings/drift cutters to make it 6/12', and skid shoes) I clean almost 1/2 mile of gravel driveway (mine and my parents) as well as some of the elderly neighbors that dont have much business shoveling snow.

2. Cab should be removable fairly easy. So that I should only have to remount my additional lights on the rops and be set for spring/summer/early fall work. I need the cab off for the close quarter timber road work, and I prefer an open air tractor in the good weather.

I have researched the curtis cab, the Jordann perry sp? as well as this site at length for ideas and the $$$$ is a little steep, and I think I can do a pretty nice job of making what I want. I do have a pretty good shop full of toys..errr tools and I have a decent background in fabrication so it is a realistic goal. What I need though is some pictures of how the cabs mount to the tractor. I thought no better place to ask than here as I have seen some really remarkable things done here, and who better to ask than fellow NH owners.

BTW I know it is custom to post pictures but I am currently away on business till Christmas and I don't have access to the tractor till then /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I promise to post as soon as I get home again.

Thanks in advance J. Stephens

I have a Curtis Cab withthe soft side doors that I had installed on my TC40D last winter. I traded for the TC40DA this spring and the nice folks at Curtis tell me my cab will fit fine.

I'm planning on installing the cab this weekend and will take some pictures and post it here of the installation process. The only problem may be is getting help as it is a two person job.

With the recent release of "Halo 2" my two 15 year old boys, and their friends, seem a bit distracted. I may have my hands full convincing them that two hours in my unheated shed is much more enjoyable then two hours in front of the Xbox.

I was fairly impressed with the Curtis Cab. It is not a factory cab, it is an add-on cab. But for protection from the wind, sleet, snow its a good product. The Curtis folks also did a nice job with the instructions. They are clear and easy to follow.

Wonderful thank you for the response!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I will look forward to your pictures. I really am interested in where the cab mounts to the tractor. I have gotten all the parts for the project layed out (heater, wiper assemblies, steel, laminated glass, seals etc.) I have allready built a toothbar for the bucket, a bracket for the ROPS to add 4 6" lights (2 front and 2 rear) I have allready added the remotes for a Hyd. top link which is on order. I have a lot of future projects in mind but don't have the time at the moment.

I look forward to your cab install, and wish the best of luck in obtaining "help"

Thanks again

Unfortunately, Halo 2 won out over the Curtis Cab installation the weekend. That, along with some work on the snowmobile trails and the Vikings-Packers game resulted in the cab installation being delayed.

I hope this weekend works out. If it does we will get some pictures posted.

Oh well, I am looking forward to seeing where it mounts to the tractor. I was hoping some other class III owners with cabs would be popping up some pics so I could get an idea of how they mount. Maybe when the snow starts flyin'

Thanks

I installed the majority of the Curtis Cab on the TC40DA today. I have the heater and electrical installation left to go. I've attached a few pictures as we put it together.

Unfortunately, the cab is a little dirty and it shows in the pictures. It tooks us about two hours to install. I had to remove the hand rails on the "DA" which I did not on the "D". Otherwise it fit just as well on the new model.

I suspect I have another 1 to 2 hours to finish the installation.

I'm impressed and by the time I got to the tenth picture I was also feeling much warmer too.

Is this the type of cab that you will be removing in the summer, or will you just pop the doors off?

PineRidge, I take the cab off for the summer. I'm thinning a 22 year stand of spruce and pine and need the ability to fold my ROPS to get through the trees. I will continue the thinning process this winter but wont be able to get everywhere I need to with the cab on.

I do lose some visibility with the cab on so I prefer not have the cab on. But on or about January 10 when the air temperature is about 20 below and the wind howls out of the northwest at 30 mph I appreciate having the cab. Its a fair trade off.

As other cab owners have said the cab offers a nice way to add lights. I can mount them high and on each corner. It really helps with the loader on.

I would also welcome a nice warm cab in the cold winter as long as it might still be removed for the summer jobs.

I have never used a cab myself but I suspect that even if the doors were removed in the summer there would still be some solar heat picked up from the front glass if it were not removed as well.
