A few months ago I mentioned that I would be driving to Calgary later in the summer. Well summer is here & I wish I was on the road or in Canada already, given the heat that's here.

However, here's my question - - I plan to spend a night or two in Calgary, Banff, and Jasper. Do you have any experience or suggestions for places that are nice but [more-or-less] reasonably priced? I'd rather not spend $300-400 a night.
Thanks for your help.

Nice and reasonably priced may not be the same.

I'd suggest a Google search for accommodations.:D

I could give a few places that are nice and very reasonably priced but these are accessible by foot/bicycle type places!:D

I've poked around quite a bit on travel sites. I know what's available - - I was just hoping someone with 1st hand experience might respond.

Thanks,

The nice accommodations with a view cost. [ Banff springs Hotel, Chateau Lake Louise, Jasper Park Lodge -- Top of the line but they do have less expensive rooms ]

After that there are any number hotels - motels that are all similar and expensive at peak season.

There are hostels in Banff and Lake Louise that are quite acceptable. The one in Jasper is not as nice.

Jack,

Unfortunately, I can only tell you the places we like to stay....but we like them because they are good for our kids, not necessarily for us. In Calgary, we stay at the Sheraton Cavalier It is not downtown, but is closer to the airport (and the Edmonton side of Calgary). The kids love it because it has a couple of indoor waterslides and a pool they can enjoy regardless of the weather.

We tend to camp most of the time we go to Banff or Jasper, but if we are skiing or just doing a quick trip in Banff we like the Douglas Fir Resort Typically we get a chalet which is perfect for a couple of day stay. Any guesses why the kids like this place? ;)

In Jasper we tend to go to Becker's Chalets They are outside of Jasper a bit but they are right on the Athabasca River which is beautiful. No waterslide/pool here, but the kids love the cabins/chalets too.

Not sure how many of you there are, and again, these are family type spots that we enjoy because we have the kids with us.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure how many we will be either - - as few as 4, maybe 6. I'll keep your suggestions handy & will call for availability when I can judge when I'll be in each place.

Thanks,

Jack
