Califorinia Fires

The fires in CA are just terrible. As I watch the burning on TV, I can't figure how the houses are catching fire. They seem to be in neighborhoods with a few trees. Are the roofs wood? Or is it wood siding or trim catching fire and then going from there? It just doesn't make sense to me.

The most common cause is embers blowing into the attic through the gable end vents. Fires start from the inside.
