There could be an interesting story here.

Yes, and whatever the story might be- it looks like it was a close call.

I think we all need to thank the wildfire firefighters. They work 16 hour days in 100 degree+ heat while wearing heavy turnout gear. If given just half a chance to save your house, they will be there. Being not too far from the Blue Cut fire and having similar vegetation, I've followed all the local fire departments recommendations including clearing 100' around all my structures. I've also cut 50' wide firebreaks down to bare ground along all my property lines.

I don't remember where I saw that yesterday. I believe it is the one where the people refused to leave so firefighters had to stay and protect them.

One of the big problems fighting wild land fires in California is Poison Oak and the smoke can kill you or put you in the Hospital.

The reason I bought the D3 Dozer was to put in fire breaks around the family property...

The fire department loved me and the city gave us nothing but grief for years because I didn't have a grading permit and at one time said I needed to submit an EIR...

One of my buddies is hogtied because his pasture is critical habitat for some snake... never seen one but is so delineated which makes it basically hands off.

Others have been prohibited from maintaining fire trails/roads.

One one hand it is common sense what steps can be taken to improve preparedness and on the other we are required to have a permit to remove a single tree... so many just let nature take over

It's often better to beg forgiveness than ask for permission. Especially in a blue state where idiocy and discoordination reigns supreme. I have a friend that lives in the Carmel Highlands where the Soberanes Fire is raging. A couple of weeks ago he was packed up, ready for evacuation. A couple of years ago he wanted to take out a dead tree close to his home but the Coastal Commission would not let him claiming it could be habitat for some obscure wildlife critter. I wouldn't have asked in the first place.

Yep. I used to cut 25 ft wide firebrakes along the fenceline and ditches of my 10 acre ranch in Tehama County, CA. Two hours work could mean the difference between safety and disaster.

I noticed that the Blue Cut fire destroyed the McDonalds at the I15/Hwy 138 interchange. That was our place for a quick breakfast when driving from San Bernardino to Sacramento.

"Potential Habitat" is the catch phrase that brings everything sensible to a screeching halt. Even when the -ologists do their studies of the endagered-species-of-the-year and find the end result to be suprisingly alive and well, they see no reason to call of the protection. I always have to ask who is threatening said species as they, by doing their studies, are the only ones who seem to be disturbing the subject in question.

Thanks to all of the hardworking firefighters on all of the fires! No thanks to the wasted money of continuing studies and preventing common sense from moving forward when a study proves to be of little value in solving a non-problem!

The firefighters are true hero's.......they do a great job. The guys that start the fires like the guy they arrested up near Clear Lake should be tied to a stake and burned.........I have no use for people like that......cowards.
