Hi gang, I have a 04 E150 work van that is throwing up a P1450, which I understand to be "Unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum". Here are the symptoms:
1 Just recently the P1450
2 I have to barely trickle the gas in at the pump, I mean SLOW, or it will shut the pump off.

It seems to run fine, I have found that this could be caused by:

-- EVAP canister purge outlet tube (EVAP canister purge valve to EVAP canister) blockages or kinks.

-- EVAP canister tube (fuel tank to EVAP canister) blockages or kinks.

-- Fuel vapor elbow on EVAP canister contaminated.

-- Restricted EVAP canister.

-- Canister vent (CV) solenoid stuck closed (partially or fully).

-- Plugged or contaminated CV solenoid filter.

-- EVAP canister purge valve stuck open.

-- Fuel filler cap stuck closed (no vacuum relief).

-- VREF circuit open in fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor.

-- Damaged FTP sensor.

What should I work on first? And how to diagnose.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dave

Btw, I have pulled the tank and checked the filler tube and over flow/cut off tube.

When you say you check the tubes when you pulled the tank what do you mean? Seems like you have a restriction somewhere.

All the newer vehicles have a small amount of vaccum on the fuel tank to keep the fumes in . The cheapest thing to try is the fuel cap . It may be hard to find the problem . I do know the dealer uses a smoke test to check for leaks . The light could even be set if you leave it running while fueling it . ( not common )

Sorry guys let me clarify a few things, I dropped the tank down on jack stands and undid the filler hose and the tube on top of the filler hose. This is the tube that goes back up to the fuel inlet and shuts off the fuel nozzle at the gas station. I also forgot to tell everyone that I did try a new cap.
Hope this helps.

Did you blow air through the vent line or better yet replace it? It seems like this has to be the problem or a restriction somewhere since it has problems filling up at the gas station.

I have not done anything yet to the vent line going to purge valve and then the canister (If if understand this part of this system). I have visually inspected it. It comes out of the tank and then heads to the very back of the van, there are a couple of sections with different sensors and valves it looks like. I was not sure how this system should act under "normal conditions", it sure seems extremely complicated for a gas tank vent. Should this be my next step?

Okay gang, I have off today and tomorrow. I dropped the tank out, and got to really inspect everything. I blew air from the tank all the way back to thru the rest of the emissions stuff vent line (long hose that goes to the back by the spare, thru the canister purge valve, etc) This all seemed fine. I did notice a bad connection after the cannister/black thing were I believe the purge valve connects up. It just pushes in. This might be the code tripper???? When I shot air from the back toward the tank, it would take air but then blow it back like it was pressurized. I then completley undid the vent line where it goes into the tank, and blew the line from front to back and it is good.

When I shot air into the vent nipple on top of the tank, it takes it but blows it back. NO AIR comes out the main filler hose. Now remember that I have to barely trickle gas in at the pump (painfully slow). I am not quite sure how this is supposed to work, BTW the overflow shut of hose that goes up to the filler nozzle comes off the vent hose, so gas is bypassing a lot of the tank and going right into the vent hose. I am going to get the fuel line disconnect tool now and pull the tank out from under the truck and have closer look.

Thanks, Dave

I think you are on to it. I believe its a venting problem. It could be something as simple as some mud dobbers building a nest.

Well I got everything taken apart, opened up the tank too. There is a plunger like thing that attaches to the vent. I took it apart and it seemed to move freely (I really do not know if I did anything with it). I put it all back together, and went and picked up my daughter from school, I swung by the gas station and put around 10 gallons in, it was the first time in ages that I could pump at full speed!!!! I really am not sure what changed but, it definitely works better. I reset the check in light with my scanner and will see if it trips. Hopefully this this code was set by that purge valve being loose.
BTW, I find it CRAZY all of these emission things on a vent line.
2 wired connectors inline with the hose
the huge cannister thing
the purge valve
and then a box with what looked like an air filter
Thanks everyone, Dave

Just think, your vehicle is somewhat old tech when it comes to emissions. The 08's and newer have tons more junk. Try working around newer vehicles emission crap. I pulled a elderly couple out of the ditch along I 70 a year ago in some big GM thing, not sure if it was a Buick or what. Anyway there were a few hoses hanging down near the gas tank from going in the ditch. They were worried about them but the car ran fine so I just tied them up and told them to take it to the dealer. Anyway it was full of canisters and hoses back around the gas tank.
