Hi i'm
wondering if anyone could give me an answer to what i think is a problem.i have an L3130 HST 4 wheel drive tractor which the front tires wore out on the outside.most of the time i use it in the pasture not on soild roads & not in 4 wheel drive.i keep the toe in within spec. after replacing the front tires with the same size & brand as what came on it when new i set the toe in according to the book as usual.i have also replaced inner & outer bearings on both sides but the top of the tire seems to be farther out than the bottom. i know that there is suppose be some camber but this seems to be quite a bit. is there a cure for this? it wasnt this bad when new, it has about 2000 hrs on it

thank you

What wears out tires quickly is if you turn sharply and go fast on hard pavement. You can tell this if you make a sample turn on a concrete driveway: You will leave marks.

That being the case, increased air pressure may help if it doesn't make the tractor crab because the front and rear wheels don't have the same ground speed.

Also, you could experiment (again on concrete) to see what toe setting produces the least rubber residue on the path. If the inside and outside tires are running the same path radius, then there can be considerable scrub (which also wears the tires).

More air pressure would be the first play I'd run. Look for the change in wear on the tread blocks.

The camber is set by the knuckle castings. Tire brand, model and tread compound have a lot of effect on wear as well.

Half way through the life rotate tires side to side.

I would say to leave it in 4wd. When the fronts drive, they won't scrub as much. When in 2wd, the rears will tend to push the front end through a turn.

The L3130 do have more than the usual camber, nothing to do but run it. Camber helps in turns but does tend to wear the out side of the tire. If it bothers you too much you can remount the tires on the reverse side to even out the wear.:)

Along with the other suggestions, perhaps a small adjustment of the toe mayalso help. I typically always adjust all my home use vehicles. Typically there is a casting line running around each tire where you will see a small amount of thin rubber, you can easily peel away. I use this line as it is symetrical on each tire.

Measure the disance on the front, tire to tire, then the back, tire to tire. I try to make it so they are slightly toed in within 1/16" to 1/8" .
