Can稚 open JD cylinder. Help

Trying to rebuild the lift cylinders on my 420 loader. Cylinder # is JDAH 163579. I致e had the tractor for several years and put many hours on it. I doubt they致e ever been touched in thousands of hours.

The rod end of this cylinder definitely looks to be threaded. It has the small hole in the side designed for the special unscrew tool. Not worried about paint so I just used a pipe wrench. They turned relatively easily but won稚 unscrew. Both cylinders made what looks to be 2 or so revolutions and now are just spinning. It feels as though it gets loose at one point in the Revolution and makes a little click sound. I致e tried pulling and continuing to unscrew. I even hooked up a little winch strap to provide a little tug on the rod while I unscrewed. Nothing. It basically acts like it痴 stripped but I just don稚 see how that痴 possible given the little effort it took to get it going.

Any suggestions ?

There is a lock wire in a groove, half the groove is in the gland, the other half is in the barrel. Observe the hole while turning the gland, when the end of the wire appears get under it with an awl or small pick. Rotate the gland in the direction that unwinds the wire from the cylinder. When the wire is out pull sharply on the rod to use the piston to force the gland from the barrel.

Ahh thank you! I was trying to disassemble them while still on the loader to give me the leverage I needed. The slot with the clip showing was on the inside and I couldn稚 see it until I pulled the cylinder off and flipped it 180 degrees. Got it! Thanks.

In all the reading ab you tube videos I found I didn稚 stumble upon a single video with a cylinder like that.
