Can a wood chop saw bw used for metal cutting?

I have a HF 12" sliding chop saw that I don't use alot. If I put a metal cutting disk on it will it work for cutting metal?

Certainly....................... but
doubt that it will last very long or work very well.

HF sells metal cut off saws for not much $$$$. I'd go that route.

Are you refering to an abrasive metal cutting blade or a carbide tipped cold saw blade? DO NOT install a carbide tipped "cold cut" metal saw blade on your 4500-5000 + rpm miter saw. Those blades are all specifically designed for low rpm ie.1500-1800 rpm. An abrasive blade would work but a cheap chopsaw with blade can be had for about $50.00 and your top-o-the line DeWalt will stay in mint condition.

Afternoon Harris,
A regular chop saw goes to fast. At work we use a Porter Cable metal chop saw 14" blade rated at 1600 rpm. Thats the right tool for the job. You might get away with it for awhile but I doubt it will last On ours, we have the support stands on each end along with adjustable stops. It is a neat setup.

With all the grit that ends up on my chop saw, I would not even consider doing it with my mitre saw. And on my metal chop saw, if I saw a heavy or thick piece of metal, I sometimes get a glowing red "icicle" at the back edge of the shield where most of the metal bits hit.

I think that would be a bad idea. I ahve a cut-off saw, but rarely use it now that I have a portaband. That is the tool for the job when it comes to cutting metal.

I made just a couple of cuts with my Makita miter saw before I ran to buy a Milwaukee chop saw for steel.

More tools are better anyway.......
