Looks like a Commercial to me. Dad used to have one similar to it (his had a granny/transport gear lever on the left side near the muffler).
It would cut most anything you could push over with the 30" rotary mower on the front. We stopped using it when it started using a quart of oil per tank (1 gallon) of gas.

OK... I think I've identified it. It is simply a "C" as stated, the successor to the L, and predecessor to the Commercial 8/10/12 which had Kohlers.

It's essentially a 7.6 Convertible, with the name shortened to C.

Without the serial number, it's hard to dig any deeper -- at least for a novice.
