This elbow fitting is on the boom cylinder of a Kubota KX040-4. At first glance one might think it's -10 ORB to -6 JIC...But it's not.
The hose fitting looks very similar to a NPTF, but the thread diameter is not the same. Most of the hose ends look like they attach to strait thread pipe.
Similarly, the threads on the O-ring side measure .88".
I can't match it up with any standard adapter on Hydraulics Direct (or other).
Does anyone know what standard Kubota uses? JIS? BSPP?
The part from Kubota is $87!! An equivalent ORB to JIC is about $6. Does Kubota do this intentionally?
Thanks in advance.

Looks like BSPP to me. If you pull the hose, you should see a female and male 60º taper. If it's BSPP, the female taper will be on the elbow and the male taper will be on the hose side of it.

As far as pricing goes, well the rest of the world pretty much adopted metric and BSPP fittings. They're are common and cheap there. Well, not the Kubota part exactly, that's expensive everywhere.

Would it make sense that the side with the O-ring is an ISO Metric M22x1.5 and on the other end a -6 BSPP? M22 male threads are .87 (I measured .88. It's definitely a straight thread, and the "cone" is female inside the elbow and Male on the hose, similar to a standard US "pipe" hose fitting.

.880" is too high for a M22 thread though. Also, on that style of fitting (90º adjustable as they call it) I don't think they make it BSPP to Metric or vice versa. Only BSPP- BSPP or Metric- Metric.

We don't really use "-06" but rather 1/8, 3/8, 1/2, etc for hoses and fittings sizes.

Here is a good chart for the thread dimensions of BSPP thread. May help figuring out the exact sizes. BSPP Whitworth Pipe Thread DIN ISO 228 (DIN 259)

Ya, but the closest is 5/8, which has a major thread diameter of .902. Argh. I can't imagine Kubota makes up their own standard.

I don't think so either.

Then again, could be an entire different thread too.

Checking dimensions for the ORB fittings and the .880" you measured matched the -10 (5/8) fitting.

This guide may be more helpful as it includes all the other threads so it's easier to compare: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0068/3235/7429/files/Thread_Identification_Guide_Trimantec.pdf

What does the end of the fitting that connects to the hose look like? Flare, inverted flare, flat, etc? My Branson has 30 degree flare that looks very similar to JIC 37 degree but they do not interchange.

It’s a straight pipe thread. Close to 3/8, but inside has a female chamfer and the male is on the hose fitting.

BSPP is British Standard Pipe Parallel.
BSPT is British Standard Pipe Taper
It looks to me to be SAE O-ring Boss to JIC.
Just take the fitting, in question, to your local hydraulic shop. They will be able to match it up.

hugs, Brandi

It’s not jic. It’s a pipe swivel on the hose. I’ll take the fitting off and photograph it with the dimensions.
