can anyone identify this machine for me?

I hate demonstrating my immense ignorance, but my curiosity has the best of me,

My buddy found this machine in the old garage on a property he just purchased. Neither of us have any idea what it is. We recognize the electric motor, but have no idea what the motor is driving?

To me it looks like a small air compressor. Like a unit a airbrush artist would use.

Agree, compressor, diaphragm type low volume but OK for inflating tires.
Forget spray painting and most air tools.
Back when that is all one could buy.
On the other hand totally oil less and OK for breathing air 'under the hood' applications.

Yep, it's an old compressor for a paint sprayer. Probably about 1960 vintage?
The orange jug is the more important find, if it's full!!

Thanks guys, you've solved the mystery! The orange jug has "Cordells Old Fashioned Sorghum Molasses" etched on the jug. It is empty and hasn't been refilled with anything more potent. Thanks for the help, Paul
