Someone in the Central Texas area that can rebuild a pair of barn doors and their track.

I have been looking for a couple of weeks, have talked to a couple dozen contractors and not found anyone able or willing to do the work.

Any help appreciated.

You might try a company that specializes in garage type doors. Rolling doors and the hardware are pretty common. What is wrong with the doors? Are they off the tracks or have deteriorated supporting structure?

...and central Texas is a big area. Where have you tried and what types of people have you contacted? Mueller sells metal buildings and they might give you some names of contractors who might be willing to do your doors as fill work between jobs.

Check with you local lumber yard, they will know who does that kind of work. I doubt that the Home Depot or Lowes would know.

The barn is in Taylor which is about 20 miles northeast of Austin.

I have tried ranch maintenance, metal building erectors and overhead door type places so far.

The barn has a pair of sliding doors. On one side the doors are damaged and just removing them and walling the opening over would be fine.

On the other side the track framework is missing the legs and the doors are jammed from sitting for so long. What it probably needs is to have the track rebuilt and new mounting hardware put on the doors.

Thats on my list as well and is something I can do. I ordered a small can of Rust converting metallized paint that I am going to do a test application on a panel this weekend. At this point the underside of the panels look good and do not leak.

Getting one set of doors operational makes the barn usable.

I think it's likely that we will all be dead and gone before that barn ever rusts through. However, it's much more appealing to the eyes to have a good paint job. The problem with the rust converter paint is that you need to wire brush the metal to expose the rust. That is often harder to do than the paint job, but prep is always the hardest and what makes the job last longer.

I hope you find somebody to fix your doors. If you don't find someone soon, you might try a local high school to see if there is someone in one of their Ag classes who would like to make a few bucks and help you with your project. Many rural schools have Ag and welding classes where students do all sorts of projects. You might have to supervise pretty closely, but the payoff could be a working door and a kid who has learned something.

Sounds like an easy job. That's the problem. For most guys its too small unless they are hungry for work.

Have you thought of doing it yourself? Just replacing the track and the hardware shouldn't be a big deal.

Otherwise, ask around to see if any reputable contractors are looking for a small job to fill in with.
