Thinking about subject, first thing comes to mind, just a sign in yard is a good start for protection. Crook says to himself, "Gotta look for greener pastures." Also flood lites with motion detectors that kick on when some approaches home could discourage intruders? How about warning to folks inside when someone walks or drives up driveway? Or crazy idea like, Loud speaker sensing trespasser shouting, " I SEE YOU. GET OUT of HERE!"

Just thoughts rolling around my mind. Might be interesting subject?

To all of us, Good health and BE SAFE..........Coffeeman

Yes - anything that puts doubt into a thief’s mind or makes it appear someone is home will be a deterrent.

I know some folks who have recordings of mean sounding dogs barking when a motion detector is triggered.

Just need to vary the responses so a obvious pattern doesn’t occur.

At our old house, I installed an alarm system. In 11 years, it went off once. It was a snowy night. I was asleep in my bed. The alarm went off. I checked inside quickly and went to the window to look at the garage. Footprints in the snow revealed someone parked down the block, and tried every garage door and parked car up to mine. They checked my truck in the driveway, then they got to the overhead garage door. They apparently lifted it high enough even though it was locked, for the reflector for the IR light beam that was mounted on the door to not reflect the beam back, and the alarm went off. By the distance between the footprints that were leaving our yard, they were running pretty fast.

So yes, an alarm system can work to deter thieves. They'll look for easier targets.

My approach is to stop them right at the road. Fence, trees, ditch. Next is thermal alarm at 3 stations coming up the driveway. If station 3 tones, they're halfway up the driveway past the barn. I just acquired a surplus trailer mounted Kband radar speed trap trailer. It's pretty good at picking up 5 to 50 mph speeders coming thru the gate. These units tone in the house, too.

If tone 4 lights up, we take appropriate precautions. There is frequent random gunfire going on here, too. The report from my .50 cal Barrett takes 22 seconds to reach downtown Brighton. Depending on the air temperature. Timed it multiple events. Cell phone meter. I just watched Rambo for the first time. First one I believe. What the .50 does to 'things' is well represented in that movie. So, EVERYBODY knows what to expect because we make it so. I just added an air powered train bell to my driveway railroad crossing, and the dogs have to learn what that means.

This video is 10 years old, but things have only gotten better. BTW: leaving here is a lot harder than arriving, especially if you are in a REAL BIG hurry.

You would think but all depends if criminal is concerned about being caught...

Lots of video footage of crimes in the neighborhood but really of no use except to document theft for insurance...

Cameras everywhere... we even record each car coming and going but no interest from law enforcement as property crimes no longer rise to level of police action and this has been the case for some time...

Lights and sound are a deterrent. Even if you want to put in cameras, still light up the place and don't bother with the IR in the cameras.

YES, definitely, but it has to be extraordinary. More than a little three dollar Pizzo horn. Seen the skid marks in the driveway of perps leaving some of my protected sites.

Around my house, I installed some cheap solar LED powered lights with motion detectors. Four on each side of the house and six on the backyard. They sure light up the area during the nighttime whenever movement is detected. So far, only neighborhood cats seem to trigger the lights turning on. But I am sure it would be unsettling to any nighttime intruders intent on a burglary.

I have cameras. I really doubt anything deters a criminal.
Just watch the news they show all those people that have packages stolen off their porch, and they have the criminal's pic on the ring door bell camera.

Look at all the security banks have. Much better than any home system. Banks still get robbed

Short answer is NO. If someone wants to break in they will. End of story.

I hope you added a disco ball and music. I think the thief would be happy to have motion lights. Nobody pays attention to them because they always turn on-off all night long. Somebody groping around in the dark with a flashlight would draw more attention.
