I've been here for 40+ years. Bought 140 acres and wife and I had built in back of farm. Almost 1/2 mile driveway. No one bothered us. Gated the entrance of farm lane. In 2008 we had 5 Gas Wells drilled and roads to wells give access for maintenance of wells. Took gate down as no-one bothered us. Lately we get folks driving into our property. Even have neighbors riding horses on our Gas Well right of ways. I catch them and I politely ask them not to "crap up" the roads if U Know what I mean. But , I don't recognize about 1/2 of them. I tell them the insurance company doesn't like it because of liability. But still yet some do trespass and we post every year. By the way the wells are "shallow" wells and the royalties aren't very much.At our old house, I installed an alarm system. In 11 years, it went off once. It was a snowy night. I was asleep in my bed. The alarm went off. I checked inside quickly and went to the window to look at the garage. Footprints in the snow revealed someone parked down the block, and tried every garage door and parked car up to mine. They checked my truck in the driveway, then they got to the overhead garage door. They apparently lifted it high enough even though it was locked, for the reflector for the IR light beam that was mounted on the door to not reflect the beam back, and the alarm went off. By the distance between the footprints that were leaving our yard, they were running pretty fast.
So yes, an alarm system can work to deter thieves. They'll look for easier targets.
But as it is now we are not as private as we used to be. So I have thought security may be good idea.
Only one problem. I am far from main road and Internet not available to me.Very expensive for them to run wire on poles or underground. I can use iPhone hotspot or hook up with Hughes Net. But I hear many are not happy with Hughes Net? May not be able to get enough speed from phone connection.
Any ideas appreciated......you all be healthy and BE SAFE.......Coffeeman
