Can I do the transmission service myself

I have a 2210 and am pretty handy with tools, Can I do this service myself without getting in over my head. Do I have to remove the mower deck. Anthing I need to watch for?

Do a search as there has been lots of discussion on this. The answer is yes to both. It is easier without the deck. The hardest part is removing the bottom screen as the line attaching it restricts easy removal. I tried it this way first then had to remove the other end which allows removal of the screen.

That way, I will have the information for the following weekend when my brother asked me to help him service his 2210 near Little Rock. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'm not expecting any surprises, but do know one needs to plan on what to do with several gallons of tranny oil being drained.
How many gallons in the 2210?

Just to be safe, I would take it in to be serviced. You might find out that when you get it all taken apart that you might be in over your head. That's just my oppinion. I have never took a 2210 apart, But I would let the pros do it. I always try to be on the safe side.

Well I did not get to it this weekend but may attempt soon. taking it into the dealer sounds inviting, no mess, no fuss, but unfortunately no $ either!

I just did mine on my 990 the other day. Nothing to it you just drain it clean the long screen thing and put on a new filter and add about 5 and 1/2 gallons of fluid on my 990 dunno about yours.

Do it yourself. Buy all of the parts & oil from Deere. The MMM needs to come off (doesn't have to but extremely simplifies the project). You need to learn how to remove the MMM anyhow for cleaning, blade replacement, etc. The most difficult part, like someone stated eariler, is removing the suction screen tube. I fought with it for ~ twenty minutes and then followed the tube up to where it bolts to the top of the unit (see attachment). Remove those three bolts (part #20 in picture) accessed from atop of the rear tire and it allows you to get things apart in like two minutes. Just remember to have container(s) available to hold the 3+ gallons of hydro fluid. Also, the hydro fluid you drain will be red-ish (like auto trans fluid) and the new will be gold-ish (like engine oil).

Well I did it no problem, easy to do , removed MMM , which BTW was very easy , and did the R/R. Man there is a lot of fluid in these babies. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I done mine myself but I also removed the rear wheel, gives you some extra room.
