SMITHFIELD - Two crane companies working together removed a tractor and a corn planter from a bridge near Smithfield Friday morning.

The tractor was being driven by Bryant Knoerzer of rural Elwood when he attempted to cross a wooden bridge at about 10 p.m. Wednesday. The rear dual wheels of the tractor broke through the bridge, which crosses the E-65 Canal owned by Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District.

Knoerzer scrambled from the tractor's cab and was not injured.

Extracting tractor from bridge took enormous cranes, hours of prep work - Kearney Hub: News

We had to get a 350 ton one time where I used to work. I heard the normal rate was around $30k per day. I think we had gotten some sort of deal out of them though. I hope he had insurance!

Wow. A 13 ton tractor and 9.5 ton planter trying to cross a bridge built in the 1930's to handle 5 ton loads:confused2:

Yep, glad he was unharmed, but really... he kind of got what he had coming for attempting it. Probably was not his first time across it, though???

Hope it doesn't "cost him the farm"... At least he is ok.

If it does not cost HIM, it will certainly cost the rest of US to repair his idiot action. And guess what? He won't care.

I doubt any insurance company is going to pay out on that. If they were covering a bridge on the property, I'm sure they would have been up his butt about maintenance and what it could be used for and so on...

My thoughts, exactly.

Yea, I remember a day nobody would concern themselves with anything other than how fast they could run to help out someone in such a situation.

Those day seem to be gone. Maybe it was a bridge maintenance problem and not the tractor owner's fault. You can bet the insurance is going to squirm out of it anyway they can. That can ruin the tractor own financial.
