SMITHFIELD - Two crane companies working together removed a tractor and a corn planter from a bridge near Smithfield Friday morning.
The tractor was being driven by Bryant Knoerzer of rural Elwood when he attempted to cross a wooden bridge at about 10 p.m. Wednesday. The rear dual wheels of the tractor broke through the bridge, which crosses the E-65 Canal owned by Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District.
Knoerzer scrambled from the tractor's cab and was not injured.
