I have a YM1601D which does not have a live PTO so it has an overunning coupler to keep me out of the fences. I like the protection a slip clutch can provide over the shear pin, but do not know how it would work on my tractor. I know that I can add the slip clutch to my rotary mower, but then whenever I get another implement that has rotational force I would need to either buy another slip clutch (if it doesn't have one already) or move the one from the rotary mower to the other implement. Could I mount the slip clutch on the overunning coupler? As always, thanks for the advice.

The two perform intirely different things. Where else do you plan using the clutches? I can't think of anything besides rotary mower where an overrunning clutch helps. Most empliments that need slip clutch come equipped with it. Only problem you might have retro-fitting is pto shaft being too long to use both. It's worth shortening mower shaft but questionable for other empliments.

Yes you can mount the clutch on the tractor side.

Jaxs--I was specifically thinking about a finish mower and PTO driven auger.

LD1--Thank you, I could not find any reference to this question. I did not know if there was inherently something wrong with this set up.

Nothing wrong. Some just view it as more dangerous with that large of an object spinning right there, rather than back on the implement under some cover

Please don't be so protective of someone stealing your idea. We are alway's looking for new and improved ideas,be a good neighbor and tell us how the slip clutch improve's auger operation,we might like one as well. Just a tip on better communicating with other tractor owners, try to use common names of parts and equipment as listed in catalogs. Or perhaps what job they perform. Does this auger you are talking about transfer grain, dig post holes, move snow, build tarraces or lift concrete?

A slip clutch don't improve performance of anything.

It's simply there to protect the tractor and drive line.

It improves over a shear bolt in that when you encounter a force that could damage a drive line, it simply slips rather than break a shear bolt that will need replaced.

Kinda like.comparing a fuse to a breaker
