Can I run a Cat 2 mower on my Cat 1 tractor?

I have a MF 135 tractor (38 HP PTO, Cat 1 3pt hitch). I'm looking to do some brush clearing but I've had no luck finding a mower/brush cutter in my area.

Luckily, one of my neighbours has one and has said that I'm allowed to borrow it when he's not using it, but it's a Farm King 620 (just type "Farm King 620" into Google and it's one of the first links to come up, under Rotary Cutter). According to the specs, my PTO HP on the tractor is good enough to run this thing, but it says it's a Cat 2 3pt hitch.

Can I run this attachment on my tractor? If so, what exactly would I need to do to make it work?

No problem running it. If you want you can get some cat 1 to cat 2 sleeves to go on pins. other than that hook up and mow.

Cat 2 to 1 conversion pins. The threaded end of these is the Cat 2 1 1/8" diameter and the smooth end with the hole that attaches to tractor is 7/8" Cat 1.

So do I absolutely have to have these sleeves, or is it optional? (since you said "if I want"). Any idea where I could get some if they're a must-have?

I only just got this tractor, it came with a new property... I'm very new to all things tractor related!

Sleeves are for if the cutter was cat 1 and your tractor is cat 2.

Ah ok, in my case it's the other way around.

Should have them in stock at Princess Auto if one near you or similar store. I would get the cutter in hand and make sure it doesn't have cat 1 pins in them already. Each pin should be 10 dollars or less.

Category 2 is larger than category 1. The holes in the link arms of your tractor are category 1. The cutter has the larger category 2 pins on it. As Dusty said you'll need to take off the category 2 pins off the mower and put on conversion pins. These pins will fit the hole on the mower but be smaller where they fit the lift arms of the tractor. They can be found about anywhere that carries tractor supplies. There will be no need for any sleeves after you replace the pins on the cutter to use with YOUR tractor. if your neighbor uses the mower on his category 2 tractor you'll have to take your conversion pins off and put back on the original pins or then use sleeves on the cat one pins to make them larger to fit on his cat 2 tractor. Best option is to just get the category 2 to category 1 conversion pins and then change the pins around according to which tractor the cutter will be used with. Takes about 2 mins to change the pins if you have a socket wrench.

my bad, My dyslexia kicked in and I got it backwards. the other gentlemen are correct on changing pins. before I did that I would take some measurements and buy a quick hitch from harbor freight.

If you've not laid eyes on the mower go do so ... just because a google search said cat 2 it may not be ... or it may already be changed to cat 1, just take your tape measure along.
