I’m looking at the APP48-3 for my new kubota l2501 hst 4wd. It says that it requires 24 pto HP which is odd to me since it’s not pto run. I have loaded r1 tires and a FEL so I think I’ve got plenty of weight. Do you think this tractor can pull those 3 shanks or will I be disappointed?

Depends on your ground. I have a jd 2025R which is a comparable machine and sometimes can pull 5 shanks all the way down on a box blade. Sometimes I can’t. Depends on the ground. I’d think you would be able to pull the 3 just fine as long as conditions were right. Can always make shallower multiple passes.

Edit: I thought was a b2501. An L2501 should have no problem.

Depends on the ground. My JD 4010 with turf tires pulled about a 7 to 9 (forgot how many) shank old JD M soil ripper but in previously plowed ground. Not sure it would put them through grass like the JD rotary plow turned over 4 years prior.

I have been doing ground contact work with two HST equipped Kubota tractors for nine years. Never a problem with the HST transmissions. HST transmissions are used a many, many pieces of heavy construction equipment weighing north of 12,000 pounds.

Do not fool yourself the BH/APP is a chisel plow. It is not.

You will have plenty of power and weight to pull a 3-shank APP, if the ground has not been compacted by animal hooves for years and if the soil is moist.

I believe the Field Cultivators branded as Bush Hog, Fred Cain and Dirt Dog are identical in source.

If you want a Chisel Plow for a compact tractor there is only one source in the USA that I know of, Buckeye Tractor in Ohio.

If you add your LOCATION to your T-B-N PROFILE your responses will be better tailored to your conditions.

Copy that. I’ll be doing stuff near Kosciusko and Sturgis, MS.

That's always an dumb answer, because do you really think that 6 ton plus equipment has the same HST as the little Kubota???

My dozer has an HST, the tranny is about the size of a small Kubota diesel and tranny combined!!

They are the same in name only!!!

Most chisel plows will need 15-20 HP per shank depending on your soil and the conditions and how deep you are trying to go, 4" vs 8".
The reason that you see pto hp listed is the most small tractor manufactures do not list a drawbar HP just an engine and a pto HP.
The engine is a very unrealistic number while the pto is going to be closer to the drawbar .
The lighter duty unit you referred to should be usable with your tractor under the right ground conditions.

In our ground, I pull a 5' with 5 hanks similar to the one in post #5... I only pull it about 8" deep.

Also have a Heavy Hitch sub soil shank that I can pull 16" deep to let snow melt moisture go deeper around our fruit and berry bushes..

Every ones ground is different..
