I own a John Deere 4100 Hydrostatic. I found a Woods Brush Bull BB48 for sale locally. The owner used it once on his Kubota and found it to be too big. I looked on the Woods site and it recommends this model for 15hp and up tractors. I think my tractor has 19 hp and 17hp at the pto. The brush bull weighs 509 pounds. Am I pushing the limits of my tractor? Does anyone have an opinion on this cutter? I will only be using the cutter occassionally around my property. Thank you.

I've run a 60" brush hog behind my previously owned 4100 hst. It ran it just fine. There was times when I had to slow down due to the amount of material being cut, but I never felt like it was too much cutter. I should note that I had the loader In place when mowing for some counterbalance. If you don't have a loader I'd definitely look for a way to add some weight to the front. I know JD makes weights to fit the, but they may be pricey.

In short, plenty of power, go the appropriate speed, and add weight to the front. You'll be fine.

I have the same cutter that I use behind my 2520. I know they aren't the same tractor, but I have no problems whatsoever, doesn't seem too heavy for the tractor and doesn't bog it down at all. I think you'll be fine, just take it slow through the heavy stuff as the previous poster suggested.

I think you will be perfectly fine as long as you have a loader installed or front weights.

I run a 48" LX4 at 400# behind my 4010, which has about 2 hp less than the 4100. I almost always run with the FEL in place. Removed just the bucket one time. Balance was still okay.

Thank you to everyone for the quick replies. I purchased the brush cutter and plan on setting it up tomorrow.
