Can my B7100d handle a 48" tiller

Looking to purchase a tiller for my B7100d tractor. I was hoping to get something in the 48" range.

I'm not too familiar with a bx2230. Is this a similar unit as the bx23?

I just bought a 45" tiller for my little 2wd 15hp Mitsubishi and the tiller weighs 400lbs, the tractor with 179lbs of ft. weight handles it ok on level ground and tills just beautiful. I needed something that was @ 400 lbs due to the lack of alot of weight on ft.
The 48" KKII weighs 600lbs and I know that was too much for mine but you have a FEL and 4wd so if you are looking at the 48" KKII you may just be fine, I would check to make sure your 3pt lift capacity is well above that and if you can before you buy something put something back there to see how the weight feels just to be sure you won't have any problems.

Steve, it might depend on the type and moisture content of the soil you till. When I had a '95 B7100HSD, I used an RTS40 Bush Hog tiller. I always called it a 40" although I guess the actual tilling width was 38". That tiller and that tractor were a good match; the tiller was wide enough to cover my rear tracks and small enough to be easy on the tractor. I think you'll be able to handle a 48" tiller if you take it slow and easy and stay out of damp clay.

I have a 1983 B7100DT and the 1 meter Kubota tiller. I think it's a model 850 tiller. The tractor handles it without problems in nearly any type of soil. I've used it on turf, in clay on softball infields, in heavy soil gardens. The tractor is usually in low range second or third gear. First pass in turf the pto is usually in 540. Second pass I generally have the pto in mid range. I think it might be 850. I think the tractor has enough power to use a 48 inch tiller but the 1 meter (39") seems to be a good fit.

I have a BX24 with 23hp. I do not know what the B7100 has but I know the size of your tractor is larger than mine. I have just purchased a King Kutter 48" XB and I have no problems with it. The tiller is just the right size for the BX.

Yes, it is for all intents and purposes the same tractor. I'm giving up 1 HP and an inch or two in overall length to the BX23. Same frame, same wheels, same ground clearance, same hood, same seat, same handles, same steering wheel, same air filter, same headlights...oh, sorry...similar enough to say it's the same.

Keith, thanks for the info. My Mother and father-in-law spent a year in Virginia on the Va. Tech campus doing graduate work. I had a chance to visit a few times. That sure is beautiful country up there. Those senseless killings that took place there last week touched me kind of personal.

Bird, You always speak with fond memories of your b7100. I also read your posts where you wished you had a larger tiller when you traded up for a larger tractor. I hope to get a larger tractor and a bit newer down the road in hopes of doing some for-hire work. I priced a Caroni 48" delivered to S. Louisiana at $1035.00 including frgt. Unless I can find something locally, I believe that is the route I'm going to take. Thanks for the help.
