Oil & Fuel Can you hear your fuel pump?

Usually when I start the Century 3045 (45 hp) during preheating I could hear the fuel pump making its usual noise. Early this winter one time when I went to start it during the preheat cycle the fuel pump was silent. It started right up though. Ever since then the fuel pump makes no noise but the tractor still fires right up and runs great still. So it got me wondering.

Can you hear your fuel pump on your Century/Branson during preheating?

Hi, yes I can and did hear my pump. Your pump should be heard while pressure is built up, then quit and continue again when it needs fuel again. My tractor once shut down because I wasn't getting any fuel to the injector pump. My fuel pump was rattling away (normal run/ satisfy,blurb/run) noise. Plenty of fuel. Checked filter, restrictions, cuts nicks, etc. When I took the hose off it would pump fine, but when you put the slightest restriction over the end of the hose it would stop pumping, and the injector pump would go dry. I switched it out with an electric unit I keep for stock/emergencies, and it started right up.

Hi fjb2c, could you please read my post about possible air in system. I dont think it is a pump issue as its cycling/running and changes pitch while monkeying with fuel shutoff or opening up a bleed screw on the top of the filter housing. But I think its air locked betwen the filter to the injector pump. It appears there is a banjo type fitting where the fuel line enters the injector pump with a possible bleeder bolt as part of the fitting at the injector pump. Can I bleed air from that fitting?

I did unfortunately have to crack the PAINTED fittings in order to check for air. There was no air. I took the fuel hose off to check fuel pump pressure and found out that there was none either at the discharge fitting of the fuel pump itself or the injector pump inlet fitting (bleeder).
