I am at the stage were I will be purchasing a new Kioti ck-25-30 ,but am very confused as to wether to purchase in canada or to make the trip to u.s.
This will be my first tractor purchase and I would like to get good value for my money.

prices seem to vary quite a bit between dealers here in Nova scotia and dealers in the states, any opinions or options would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

My understanding is that Kioti dealers in Canada pay US$ to Kioti USA for the tractors. Unlike Kubota Canada for example which is a separate company from Kubota USA and sets its own prices.

That said there will still likely be price differences between Kioti dealers in Canada and the USA because:
- inventory may have been bought when the dollar was stronger / weaker.
- much more competition in the USA between Kioti dealers and brands in general.

I would not hesitate to pay $2000 or so more if it meant supporting a really really good local dealer over going to the USA and picking one up.

If the difference starts to be much more than I'd have to figure out whether or not it is worth my time to deal across the border / warranty issues and so on.

I really don't see why you shouldn't be able to get a Kioti Canada dealer to give you a fair price - within $1000-$2k of a USA dealer given the circumstances.

Remember that if you pick one up in the states you still have to pay the GST and other taxes, plus brokerage fees and the cost of transportation to get it into Canada. Even if you do everything yourself it would have to be substantially cheaper in the USA to truly make it worth while. Plus like others have said you may not get good support from your local dealer.

Mustang,

I think I read that Proadfoot Motors (New Glasgow) and Tractor Dome (Enfield) are matching American prices on Kioti tractors now.

Check them out...

At the risk of poking a stick in a beehive, it seems to me one way to get good value for your money is by supporting local economy / business where possible. I looked at a US purchase but was eventually able to agree on a price with the local JD store that was, by my calculation, equal to or better than the US purchase.

I believe it varies from model to model, but the labels on my equipment are as follows:

JD 300 CX FEL / Bucket and Ballast Box - Made in Welland ON, Canada
JD 447 Backhoe, 72" 7-Iron MMM - Made in USA
JD 3320 - Assembled in USA

My point is, I was able to get a satisfactory price, the equipment I wanted and to support the local / North American economy, as much as possible. It concerns me as I see more and more manufacturing jobs moving offshore, how the North American economy will support itself in the future.

As stated by another poster, I was actually prepared to pay a certain premium to keep the purchase local.

I agree with the gist of the other posts. Try and buy local even if it's a bit more $. Supporting your town, building a relationship with a dealer and so on will go a long way over the life of the equipment.

That said, if the price is $4000 or more different, I'd play pretty hard ball with the local dealer to try and get a price drop to stay with him.

Good luck.

Cinder:

Had no idea that the CX loader was made in Canada!. I was turned off a bit when I saw the 'Made in China' on the 300X loader.

I'm not trying to suggest that JD can't get a good loader sourced in China but my experience with Chinese quality has not been great, yet.

I also saw "Made in China" on some of the other FEL's - 200CX I think, so I was more than pleasantly surprised when I read the labels.

I agree with the other members about supporting your local dealer.

I tried that when I bought a Kubota BX23 from the local dealer and was burned badly;the unit as delivered in terrible condition, no manuals, snowblower or 3 pt hitch parts. The dealer was upset that I had higher expectations for my $25K and suggested it was best if he "pick it up"-which he did.

The next week I travelled 20 miles south to a dealer in Michigan and bought a Kubota B7800. I saved $5000 and dealt with a great dealer.

When I was shopping I was going to buy a Kioti CK20. The price in Canada was $18K. The price in Michigan was $12900. Both dealers were 180+ miles from me. When I read about the loader cracking issuse I decided to buy a Kubota instead. I still think the Kioti's would have been a good buy though.

A $5K difference is pretty hard to justify. Unless it has changed recently Kioti and Kubota seem to be in another world regarding CDN$ pricing.
