Why does an air filter for my m8200 cost $68 canadian at my local dealer and only $17 at Messicks? It just makes me so darn mad. I'm all for supporting local business but the difference is just out of whack.:( Looking at the prices on new tractors makes me seriously consider buying my next tractor in the states even considering warranty is not transferable. Nothing ever goes wrong with a Kubota anyway.
Are there any canadian dealers here that can speak to price differences?

Most of the time businesses charge what people will pay. Apparently people in Canada and some in the New England states will pay more so dealers ask/charge more and still sell enough to stay in business. They probably pay more for land, utilities and labor. One of the reasons I like the internet. One can check prices all over and determine a fair going price. I charge rent prices determined by what can be rented in my area for how much dollars. Renters from Northern states and even Northern Ky are awed at how cheap rent is here. If people quit renting from me I have to offer incentives but can't hardly ever lower rent because it causes a very slippery slope that can lead to bankruptcy. Local rental units can not be bought somewhere else and used here like a product (tractor)can but I also face competition and have to deal with it. If I charge to much or make to much then others will see a gold mine and jump in so there has to be some level of cost vs profit involved.

We pay more because we have no choice. Many American dealers will not deal with Canada and if they did the freight eats up the savings.
To basically say Canadians pay more because we like to is nuts. And when you need a part are you going to wait a month while you order from some foreign dealer?:confused2:
Also the dealers get there prices from the parent company and with Kubota in North America that is American.

Kubota Canada is a separate entity and set their pricing with an iron fist. I buy any major parts in the US when I can. Massey is the same way up here, way more than in the US.

So I guess we are just stupid:ashamed:

Not stupid just stuck like those of us in New England. Sometimes its cheaper to order elsewhere and other times it isnt. My local dealer wants 2100.00 for a bagger for my BX24. While I contacted Barlows and they wanted 2000.00 plus 200.00 to ship. I'm no rocket scientist but it would be cheaper and faster for my local. And for the record I also contacted Messick's but they never get back to me...ever.

Living here in Canada with out fail almost, we pay more for everything. I priced a piece of equipment from John deere and a $4000 item in the states cost $5000 in Canada and that is with a .98 dollar. And that story continues to almost everything. I feel we are being raped.
Sorry, just a little bitter.

I can't remember, is there a VAT in Canada?

There is a nation wide GST and some provinces have a PST and some have a HST which is both combined. Here in Alberta we have just the GST. Even without the tax we pay more.
