Just had a thought. And yes, it hurt.

I have this more or less scrap 3 pt finish mower that would probably cost more to get into useful condition than I could get out of it.

I need something to slit the hard surface under my 'lawn' to try and seed it. I can't effectively till and seed because of the slope. Even though it's not too steep to work, it's steep enough that a hard rain will wash loose dirt and seed before grass takes root and gets established.

Drags, harrows and scarifiers that I can find are close to $400 for something that I can't really adjust, just loose chain mesh with points.

So, what if I canibalized the mower sort of as shown in this simple sketch? I'd use the frames for the wheels and 3 point arms and the mounting plate for the gear box. Cross members would be either RR ties or 4x4s with a number of pieces of 1/2 rebar embedded. The wheels could stay on to help me maintain a more even cut into the dirt. With the full 3 point system, I could lift it off the ground to move from one place to another unlike a chain harrow.

Why not attach a spring tine to the blades and run the PTO at low RPM - you might get some belt slippage. Or you could attach the spring tines to the 4x4 or RR ties too.
