My 224 wants to get stuck in 4 often. I just put pressure on the lever while releasing the clutch and it goes in (or out) every time. I can do the same thing releasing the clutch to reverse too. Try it.

I'm pretty sure the shaft is frozen and the problem is not inside.

If you have a slope nearby try neutral while slowly rolling downhill. Put a little pressure on the lever, let off apply again. Might even try it backwards.

I have a landini ghibli 90 that will not disengage. The 4x4 lamp button will go out but not the one on the dash showing that it is still engaged and it is still in 4 wd.

Might start a new thread for your specific concern if no answer from this thread.
suggest put tractor name in title so it catches people's eye....
Am unfamiliar with your tractor, thus cannot offer ideas other than typical debug/analysis ideas...such as wondering if perhaps the sensor is bad, thus giving you a false positive light.

My problem turned out to be exactly what I thought: The shaft passing from the inside of the case to the exterior control lever was rusted. I carefully used a solvent, Bernzo-Matic, and gently working the 2WD/4WD lever until it freed itself. Now I keep it oiled and cycle it often.
