Well it finally happened. My spouse washed and dried my camera ! She uses my, now hers, pocket Canon ELPH 300hs to take macro photos in our vineyard. She stuffs it into her zippered pocket of her overalls as she walks/works the vineyard. It is so light and small you never know its there. Well it was there when the overalls went into the wash a few nights ago. After fully washed and cleaned it got thrown in the dryer with the overalls. In the morning she asked if I had the camera...I said no. A light bulb went off in her head and she raced upstairs to check the freshly cleaned overalls. Sure enough the camera was there. The camera was nice and clean except for the black paint was peeling off the tin can case Canon uses. The battery that went through the wash was shot. I put the spare battery in and the camera came to life but nothing could be seen in the electronic viewfinder. The lens moves in and out. I decided to order another camera....this time the replacement is the Canon ELPH 330hs. Well within a few hours of hitting the send button on the camera order my spouse shows me that the viewfinder was now showing a blurry something and that it takes pictures fine. To shorten the story the viewfinder is now back to normal...I did put the camera in a bag of rice to absorb any residual moisture....and it takes pictures just fine. Also the Sandisk flash storage that went through the wash did not lose any stored pics and is functioning fine. I have a suspicion that when the new camera arrives it will go to the spouse and I'll get my wash & dried camera back. We have now instituted that dirty clothes must sit at least a day before going into the wash. Kudos to Canon on their product line........Cheers, Gary

Cannon ELPHs are great little cameras. I have a SD70is. It goes everywhere. Paint is worn off on all the corners. Very tough! Good to know I can send it though the washer when it needs a bath;) I was told at a camera store that about the only thing that will kill one (well the lens anyways) is sand, like at the beach, it does a number on the telescoping and lens cover mechanisms

Well, at least we know that you don't have any dirty pictures on there now !

I've always been partial to Canon, esp. their cameras. You may have already, but it won't hurt to do a few rounds with the ricebag, as it can take quite a while for all the moisture to migrate out. For a non-MIL product they can take quite a beating. Agreed, sand is nasty on anything that moves.

Good save !
