Canopies

My first canopy was plywood... served its purpose for a year or 2, until I built a full roll cage/FOPS. An hour or two and scraps I had around the barn... shade is nice.

I no longer have it but once had one made out of a fiberglass basketball backboard.

Has anyone mounted a canopy on the ROPS of their Yanmar? West Tennessee sun can be stifling from June through August, and I was thinking about taking a flyer on one for my YM2000B.

Do you mind sharing pics and reviews?

Would you buy it again?

If so, why?

If not, why not?

Thanks!

A former co-worker with his YM1720D made one out of PVC and a simple deck umbrella. Very low cost and is still being used in at his place in central TN. His easy method to attach the umbrella cloth material was to use a tarp eyelet hole metal grommets with a kit found at Harbor Freight. Simple and very effective. He even make a drink holder too. Wish I had pixs of his setup. I still recall it and ponder to do the same when time allows.

Also his view was this, a purchased canopy if broken would be a problem to repair. With PVC, it's just splice, glue and go! PCV can be painted too. Make it blend in with the ROPs color.

I went with the XLR-52 Tuff Top on my 2210BD more for rain/snow than sun. Price is reasonable and assembly is straightforward, it's a little awkward to drop in place on the mount and adjust the angle but gets easier with practice. I am happy with it and my only gripe is that it sits a few inches more to the rear than it needs to so my toes get wet (better than all of me like before). When I get ambitious I will relocate the mounting holes in the support arms to move the plastic top as far forward as possible. I went with Amaz but the total price is the same direct from All States Ag who charges less but doesn't have "free" shipping. I would have gone direct but I was concerned it might get damaged in shipping due to its size and Amaz makes that kind of stuff pretty easy. No shipping issues so I would go direct and let All States get a few more bucks.

OK, it reach a whoooooping 99F with 50% humidity here today. Hot, yet not as sticky as it was at 95F and 65% humidity earlier in the week when I had to mow. The saying, Mother of Necessity, leads to clever answers. I took what I had ...

I don't golf anymore. So, taking this rather expensive golf umbrella, I did this with 2 bungee cords.

Never thought I would say this, it's a Mary Poppins sort of Yanmar.
