Can\'t attach FEL hydraulic hoses.

This might be related to the other post from a week or so ago, so here it goes.... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I tried to attach my FEL this morning and I cannot get the male ends of the hydraulic quick connects into the female ends. Followed all of the normal procedures, warming up the tractor, releasing the pressure with the SCV, etc.

But, when I try to snap in the quick couplers, no go!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I've tried all four with the same results. So, I'm thinking that two possible problems can exist (maybe more - that's why I'm posting). /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

1. The SCV is not releasing the hydralic pressure. How does one check that possibility?

2. The FEL is sitting in the hot sun and maybe, just maybe there is pressure in the lines preventing the quick connects to snap together.

It has been about 3 or 4 weeks since I've had the FEL attached and everything worked okay the last time it was used.

I've looked in the handi-dandi JD manuals and they have no troubleshooting information in them. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Trying do the obvious before calling the dealer.

Re: Can\'t attach FEL hydraulic hoses.

Likely a pressure increase in the FEL hoses due to the higher temps. Take a read on this thread and you might get some assistance. Probably just need to release a bit of pressure from the FEL lines.

Good luck.

Must be getting febble-minded in my young age - hah! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thank you Knight9!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Didn't think of doing a search. See what happens when you're an IT-kinda guy. Ya forget to do the obvious.

I looked over the mentioned thread and will try the time-tested approach - When you can beat it - BEAT IT!!!

Now, where did I leave that punch, hammer, rag......

Yes, Knight9's suggestion worked!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Used a plastic and brass hammer on the male end to relieve a little of the pressure. Still couldn't get the silly thing to mate. I then wrapped a rag around the connector and grabbed the hose with both hands, then pushed the connector on one of the FEL mounting struts. That did the trick!! Hydraulic fluid everywhere and the problem solved!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now to go out in the hot afternoon sun and get some seat time!!

Re: Can\'t attach FEL hydraulic hoses.

This has happened to me twice. I have done the nipple-agains-the-loader-in-a-rag trick, too.

I haven't had any problems since I began planning loader removal and installation in advance. If you can, remove it after some usage and/or at the hottest time of the day when the hydraulic fluid is nice and hot, preferably in the shade. Reattach it at the coolest part of the day. If you can time it, the fluid is not expanded with heat against the nipples and the connections are a snap.
