Can\'t believe a friend would do this.

I have a friend that I've worked with 15 years and have known him for 38 years. He called me the other night and wants me to come and look at what he just bought. He's done this before when he's bought motorcycles and when he bought his ZD18, then a B7500, went from Chevy p/u to Tundra. He had been looking at ATV's and he bought a UV and wants me to have a look. I thought it would be orange, but he said he bought a 660 Rhino. What do I do now should I just write him off??? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Can\'t believe a friend would do this.

That's the real delima, do I go look at it and just say "that's nice" , do I let him take me for a ride, then, what if he asks me to drive it, if I drive it, do I pretend to like it, and horror of horrors, what if I really do think it's nice, and what do I do if I like it and really think it's fun to drive. The more I think about this, the scaryer it gets, the bed on the back could come in handy.
I've about decided I ain't going, what if I become contaminated and decide I'd like to have one???? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Can\'t believe a friend would do this.

Hey, let me know what you think of it. I tried to get myself to like the Ranger 6X6, but it just wasn't possible. I thought that the six wheel setup, with all six wheels pulling would just be perfect. I rode a new one about 4 times and just couldn't get myself remotely interested in it. So, I bought an RTV. Yeah, I know, Polaris claims that Ranger 6X6 is stronger, can carry more, can tow more etc. Bull#$*#! Not in their wildest dreams. Heck, that is plain false advertising! However, since the Rhino does not try to compete head to head with the RTV, and is designed more as a fun vehicle that can also work, I drove one of those and REALLY liked it a lot. It was an absolute blast! I'm still considering selling my Honda Pilots and Odysseys and getting one. It seems to be a good compliment to the RTV. Go check it out and give us a full report. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

That is what polaris does best. if their machines were as good thier marketing they would be awesome! they need to spend more time refining the machine and then maybe they would be at least half way decent!

If they gave me a polaris i would trade it for a honda if anybody would trade for a polaris. but as of right now i would try to trade for a kubota rtv but i might feel bad for giving someone such a piece of junk!

Re: Can\'t believe a friend would do this.

Hey, went to check out the (friends????) new Rhino today, it was raining but got to take it around the yard, seems really fast and rides suprisingly well. It is fun to drive, but no power steering and even in 2wd it was hard to steer and seemed to push the front end in a turn, like the rear differential was locked, reminded me of the 4 wheelers with solid rear axle. Lots and lots of plastic especially the front hood seemed flimsy. Did I say it was fun to drive and fast. I think it leans more to the sporty market. Totally different class than the RTV. RTV is built like a tank in comparison, definitely more geared to work. Now I HAVE to go drive the Kubota, just to see how it compares handling and ride wise, will have to take the wife along so I don't bring one home. Hey maybe she'll get to drive it and insist that she has to have it to haul her mulch and flowerpots and tools around the yard, wouldn't that be great. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Can\'t believe a friend would do this.

The Rhino rear end IS in fact full time posi-trac. That is why it handles like a solid rear axle.

I have one, and it is kinda hard on the yard in a sharp turn.

The rhino is a blast to drive. Excellent accelaration and suspension, comfy seats, true 4wd at the push of a button, cargo bed which is large enough to fit my needs, 40, yes I said 40 MPH top speed stock which can easily be modified to go 50.

Let me tell ya from experience, the rhino is superior to the mule in every way besides size and diff lock for rear. The size isn't a problem for me, but the bed is pretty small.

25 MPH top speed on the rtv and mule just plain sucks. Some tractors can outrun them. I would never buy another machine with that limit. Takes forever to get anywhere.

Steering is no big deal on the rhino. I have 27" Mudzilla tires on mine and have no trouble steering it whatsoever.

Yamaha and Polaris are the only manufacturers that have the balls to make something that my dog can't outrun. Kawasaki has been dropping the ball for years, and Kubota followed suit. I'm not saying the rtv isn't a nice machine, but the speed governor is a huge mistake. I guess they only want it to go as fast as the crappy suspension will allow. I mean, come on, 3 inches of suspension travel? solid rear axle? That thing ain't worth half of what it costs. The only thing that is more overpriced is a gator, now they ARE junk.

I'm not trying to flame you guys that have the RTV's, I am just dissapointed in Kubota for not putting more effort into a machine that costs 10G's

Re: Can\'t believe a friend would do this.

Now i have neither dieselmule but i think they have different purposes. The rhino from what i have seen is more of cross between atv and utility vehicle. I really think about it and i rarely go over 25 on my atv. for me a rtv would be awesome for what i would use it for. my fast atv days are gone /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif when i sold my honda 350x i slowed down. now that machine would do like 85 on three wheels! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: Can\'t believe a friend would do this.

I own an RTV and also like the Rhino. I'm still open to buying a Rhino if the prices become more reasonable. No offense, but you apparently missed the intended purpose of each vehicle. It seems clear that the Rhino is an awesome off road vehicle designed to be a blast to drive, but can also do some work. The RTV is a much stronger, heavier true work vehicle that is also fun to drive. I personally think you get more for your $'s with the RTV than the Rhino.
Not that one is innately superior to the other. They are chasing a different rabbit. The RTV is not nearly as fast as the Rhino, but let's see you put 2500 pounds in the bed of each and then run them up a hill pulling a 1000 pound trailer. I know, the Rhino isn't designed to possibly hold that kind of weight and run up a hill. Likewise, the RTV is simply not designed to run 40 mph. With it's design and suspension, I'm not sure I'd want it to run 40 mph. Now my Honda Pilot would run 65 mph, but there is no bed. Is a Pilot superior to the Rhino? I don't think so. Different vehicle. Different purpose.
I've owned both gas and diesel versions of the Gator. I certainly would not call either of them junk. I think the RTV is better suited for my particular needs, but the HPX Gator is a formidable competitor. I think it all depends on what you're looking to do with the vehicle.
