cant lock doors in silverado?

I have never seen this problem. But the first thing I would try is a shot of WD 40 in the key switch to see if something there is stuck because it still thinks the key is in the ignition.

My 2000 silverado suffers from chronic latch problems, mostly the tailgate but it has happened with the door too. Mine gets the latches failing to fall back into position so you have to hold the handle open while you push the latch open again. Be warned of this hazard too!
