Can\'t Remove MMM PTO Shaft
I have a BX2200 with a 60" MMM. I am having a problem removing the MMM PTO shaft from the mower. The release collar appears to slide back OK, but the ball bearings do not seem to be loosening enough allow the shaft to slide free of the spline (it moves only 1/4", then jams). I've lubed it, twisted, pulled, pryed and cursed it with no luck.
Some history... The shaft came loose once this summer when the dealer failed to put it on all the way after service. I had the RPMs all the way down when I engaged the PTO and stopped it pretty quick when I heard the noise. The shaft took a few hits on the underside of the mower and was a little banged-up but did appeared not to be damaged. It went back on OK at the time and I didn't try to get it off until now.
I now have the MMM off the tractor so I have good access to the underside. I slid the shaft off at the coupling, but still have the collar, U-joint, and a 6" piece of shaft attached to the PTO. I'll go ahead and buy a replacement (anyone have a good source?) but I need to get this off first!
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for the help.
