Any canucks order Deere parts online? For the record, I'm not talking about using JDPARTS. More along the lines of greenpartstore, etc. If so did you get nailed with excessive duty charges by couriers?

I'm tired of dealing with JDPARTS. I got dinged more every time I place an order and go to the dealer. Got a complaint in with the Competition Bureau of Canada over that one.

If you can have the part mailed to you by USPS, chances are it will sail right through with no brokerage and no HST.
If it comes by courier, count on brokerage fees + HST after conversion to CDN$$ value.
You will need to do the math very carefully to make sure it is worth making the US$ purchase.
DW just purchased something for US$99 and the Mastercard CC was $138.78
Also, check with your bank before writing a cheque denominated in US$.
Found out the hard way some banks charge $20 to process a US$ cheque.

Thanks Cinder...

Greenpartstore, uses UPS with a flat brokerage fee of $10 for orders under $200, so I'm looking at them. I always try and ensure USPS is the broker when I deal with U.S. suppliers. All of the tractor parts dealers I've looked at use couriers though. Actually, I order a lot of stuff on Amazon.com (not the Cdn. arm. Amazon.ca). They collect duties up front, which have been reasonable. However, each and every time Amazon.com has refunded those as CRA has waived them on entry. Go figure..:)

On cheques, no issue, only deal with credit cards when dealing with online sales. Thanks for the tip though.
