Car Hauler Full Width Ramps---and loading a car

I have a 22' deckover power tilt. The deckover height means a steep angle to load. The deckover power tilt doesn't have nearly the balance point & axle distance issues gravity tilt ones do. I often scrape tractor impliments loading. Backing up to a hill or what not helps a bit. But it's great not having any fenders to clear for my wide flail mower or loading anything over the side.

I use to have a 16' gravity tilt. Way to short, but the gravity tilt & low deck was nice. I don't regret going talk, but its tradeoffs either way.

Gravity tilts do have the axles centered between the tilting deck. Unless there is a fixed deck up front that means the axles are in the center of the trailer rather than 2/3 or so of the way back you normally get. That essentially means the back several feet of a gravity tilt deck isn't that usable. You can out stuff there, but you need more weight to the front of the trailer than you normally would. Plan on needing a bit longer trailer to compensate than if you had ramps. Or get one with a short fixed deck in front of the tilting deck. 20191002_143957.jpgIMG_20140209_110007-3.jpg20200105_105935.jpg20180618_122127.jpg

I bought a 22' 19LPX from Diamond C with gooseneck and 2' dove with wide stand up ramps and removable fenders.

I was looking for a tilt trailer at the time but tilts were going to run about $2,000 more than the trailer I bought.

I have been very happy with this trailer.

I have a stow away ramp car trailer. It has the advantage of being able to let a load stick off the back but the ramps are a PITA. I’d rather have them hinged. I don’t think you’ll have any trouble loading a vehicle on a between the wheels trailer. A deck over can get pretty steep. Also how the trailer is parked makes a lot of difference.

Another view. Sometimes, depending on a slope, I can drive on or off with no ramps.

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions! I decided to go with a 14K rated 24 foot gooseneck with removable fenders, metal deck, and full width ramps. No tilt due to budget constraints. Maybe next time. :) I feel better about the gooseneck for long hauls. Used to have a bumper pull RV and I constantly worried about sway. Switched over to a 5th wheel RV and no more worries. I like the peace of mind, even if it means giving up the bed of the truck. I plan on converting the gooseneck to a king pin so I can use my PullRite slider hitch to tow it. I know there are those who prefer wood, but I've seen what the sun does to wood here in San Antonio, and it's not pretty. I'll paint the metal deck with some anti-skid or sanded paint to keep things from sliding around.

Again, thanks for the suggestions!
