Bird, thank you and will not hijack this much further.

Rates vary by area on those products but it looks like the city is paying about 50% of your premiums. It also looks like your wife got the just turned 65 (or within three years of having done so) rates.

If you are buying your own Part D plan there is a good site to compare plans, Medicare.gov. I am an agent and recommend it. I do not like the Medicare Advantage Plans. We are having more and more physicians and now hospitals not to take them. Also if a person has large and often claims they end up with large out of pockets to pay. They cost less and should. Some of the Medicare Advantage plans to me are not as good and Medicare with NO supplement.

Yep, Kenneth, I've not heard anything good about the Advantage plans. And two doctors have told my wife and me that the Plan F is the best one. And the Part D plan is expensive, but doesn't have the donut hole.

After 20 + years with Allstate ( no problems with them) I went with Nationwide. Saved $300.00 per year on autos & home with a higher $ amount of coverage..I tried to get Allstate to match the $300.00 savings & the coverage . They refused. Now Allstate sends me letters saying they want me back:rolleyes:. When you have an accident / claim, I think almost all insurance companies want you to use one of their " pro shops " ( as some call them) for the work. The back glass on my wife's car was shattered. Nationwide asked me to use one of their glass shops. I refused as a friend of mine has a auto glass shop & he said he would take what they ( nationwide) paid to install the glass & I would't have to pay a deductable

I have a friend who's wife was run into from behind while stopped at a light. A Progressive agent showed up at the accident site and offered her a check for full settlement if she would sign a release. She declined the check, declined to sign the release, and turned the whole thing over to her insurance agent. The final settlement was for much more than the originally offered check. What a great way to do business!!!

I'm with Nationwide. They may not be the least expensive but I think they are competitive. Over the years, they didn't raise rates when my wife had an accident that was her fault and when I had a speeding ticket. They give a discount for longevity and for having house insurance with them, fire and burglar alarms, etc., and I have an agent that is helpful and reachable. As previousely discussed, what you pay is often correlated with the level of service you receive. The piece of mind is worth it to me.

I'm insured with a small company that only does business in Cal., Ore. and Canada. Been with them for 20+ years. I have never found a company that has been able to even match the rates or outstanding service. I bagged a deer in with my 96 Dodge Ram 1500 in Utah a couple of months ago, and the insurance company declared it total. They paid me $4,700 for which I thought was an outstanding payoff. The adjuster worked with me every way he could to get the value up.

Here's the strange part. I replaced it with a 2006 Ram 1500 (10 years newer) and my insurance cost went down by $20 annually. Exact same coverage. I've noticed this before, that rates on vehicles increase yearly, but they are insuring less and less every year due to depreciation.

Go figure!

Apparently there are dozens of little insurance companies and I'm not sure how you'd tell if one was any good or not. About three and a half years ago, I stopped behind another car that was stopped for a stop sign, we were headed downhill, and had a light rain falling, and a young lady (mid-20s) rear ended my Ford Ranger ($1,031 damage). Her drivers license showed a local address, but her proof of insurance card was to a couple (her parents, I believe) in San Antonio and was from a Charter Oaks Fire Insurance, which I'd never even heard of. But they settled with the Ford dealer that repaired my Ranger with no hassle.

Well I might question that agent. Any agent who doesn't advise to drop the collision on a vehicle that old might not be doing you any favors. JMHO

I have 2 1999's with full coverage that I need to drop. I asked them if I totaled the vehicles what the pay out would be...they said they don't have that information, but funny if I total them they'll come up with $3000 in no time and won't fix them. Love them hate them...they are all in it for the buck. We pay and pay then get denied...just like they are doing with our Ike claims.

The company does not have agents. That's one of the reasons their rates are low. I have reviewed dropping collision annually, but at $156 annual cost, it did not seem prudent. A shopping cart dent in the door costs more than that to repair.

My biggest fear now with any insurance is would they even pay a claim? Things are bad now paying a lawer might be cheaper then paying a claim! Drag you into court for years!
