My daughters minivan had a flat 8:30 at night, just a staple in it. Here's the procedure I used, tell where I went wrong? Buffed with a pnematic buffer; used Rema liquid buffer and let dry for few minutes; applied Napa unvivresal cement and let set for a few minutes ( no instructions on can but most tire cements I thought you were supposed to let set up a little before applying patch; applied patch and used stitching wheel and let set for maybe ten minutes and the put tire on wheel and air up and it leaked. I took apart again and the patch just pulled off really easy. It was a camel brand patch, so repair again using a Rema brand patch and same thing. The Napa cement was fresh, so, why can't I get the patches to stick? I'm frustrated here, I wound taking to a tire shop and they fixed it. My tire work is always after hours and on weekends and I do need to get this procedure correct. Thanks for any help. bjr

Are you putting the cement on both the patch and the tire and letting it dry to where it's tacky? I've never used a liquid buffer, so I don't know how it would affect it. Everything else sounds right.

I tried to fix my granddaughters bicycle tire and two patches wouldn't stick I finally noticed the reason was that green stuff that was already in the tube from walmart. I had tried cleaning it off with ether. So I just got a new tube.

After buffing and apply liquid glue then you light the glue to burn off the lubricant leaving the glue , then apply patch and roller with stitch wheel.

Should work alot better that way. Do not apply glue to the patch it should have adhesive on it from the manufacturer

Also if a certain brand of emergency tire sealant has been installed clean tire well, as some of the older tire sealants were flammable. So when you go to burn off the glue lube you don't go BOOM

yep.. if it's ever had any sort of fix a flat in it.. or slime.. it's hard to patch.. I've had to spray clean an area with carb cleaner or wipe with naptha or laq thinner to get a patch on before..

Note to self: if you do this (lighting glue on fire), take the tire ALL THE WAY off the rim.

At work we use Tech brand products and this is how I do a tire patch .
Buff area a little larger than the size of your patch
Apply the cleaner , wipe clean with rag . Repeat if necessary . Let dry a couple min .
apply cement over area to patch and let dry . Don,t need to overdue the cement .
When dry , maybe 5 - 10 minutes , peel backing off patch and put it on .
use the roller over entire area of the patch , I go over it both directions until the light plastic film on the patch comes loose , peel it off and I'm done . Tire is ready to mount .
The glue we use will not burn anymore , years ago it would .

I've always cleaned first then buffed followed by cleaner again. The tires have lubrication solids (powder) inside and buffing first will only embed this into the patch area. Only cleaning after doesn't always remove the powder. And as already mentioned, no glue on the patch.

Why not just ask one of the pros at the tire shop that fixed your tire what you did wrong?
