Has anybody ever removed a pair of axles from a 7000lb trailer and installed 10,000 lbs worth of axles?

I have a single axel EQ trailer I am looking into upgrading. In the utility trailer market, the heaviest standard axel is 6000# which matches the capacity of the frame. Should be easy to install 2 of them. The larger tires though may not fit in your fenders and the new springs will be longer so the two will take up more length. Space from the frame can be compensated for as they make the axels to length. The dealer I am talking to haqve it as a package, axel, tires, springs, hangers, and electric brakes. I need the brakes, and one spindle has been overheated in the past, so might as well upgrade on capacity while at it. Whole assembly is less than $900.

its cheaper to sell your current trailer by the time you buy the axles, springs, brakes, wheels, tires, coupler, fenders, ect and buy new.

Plus at the end of the day the GVWR listed on the data plate/title is what really matter versus what the axles are rated at.

I did it to a 20' car hauler, added crossmembers, beefed up the frame, swap rims/tires etc. Would have been better off selling and buying one.

I did this on my 18-foot car hauler. Put in a pair of 6k Dexter axles, new HD springs, 6-lug wheels and Maxxis tires. I swapped over one set of Dexter brakes from another trailer that I have, so that helped to save me some money.

In my case I had already invested so much in upgrading this trailer (custom winch, lighting, etc) that it only made sense to finish the job. Now it will haul anything that I need to put on it and I'm very happy with it. But, if I had to do it all over again it probably would have been cheaper and easier to just buy a 12k trailer in the first place.
