Flail Mower Caroni Flail Hp question

I just ordered a Mahindra 2516hst and am considering a flail mower instead of a rotary mower. My dealer says he recommends 5ft rotary's for my tactor. I read the entire let's talk flail mowers thread and think the Caroni 1900 maybe a little too big for a 20 PTO hp tractor. I know the 3 pt would have no problem with it weight wise. The smaller Caroni's from Agrisupply are the finer cut versions and may not be good for the brush cutting I want to do. Does anyone know what the real differences are in performance between the TL and TM versions? Or has anyone actually used the TM1900 on a 20 PTO hp tractor?

I faced the same question you are struggling with when I had my K20 which had only about 16hp at PTO. I wanted the rough cut TM version in a smaller size than the TM1900BSC but even though Caroni makes such mowers (TM1600BSC (63" cut) or TM1300BSC 52" cut)), AgriSupply doesn't import them. You might talk with AgriSupply about a special order. I am not sure they would do it and it would take at least a few months to get it but it might be worth exploring.

The Caroni ratings on their flails is based on engine, not PTO, horsepower. The TM1900BSC is rated for 30-60hp so with 20PTO hp I'm thinking you are a bit lower than recommended for that model. If you mow slowly when the grass is high and if you don't plan on any real aggressive bush hogging, you might be able to get away with using the TM1900 on your tractor. I have a 40hp tractor with that mower but I almost never run at full PTO hp and the mower doesn't seem to strain the engine much. The mower only weighs about 600lbs and it is close to the 3pt hitch so is less of a 3pt strain than a 5ft bush hog or finish mower.
