Hello,

I was wondering which one y'all would recommend between the OEM Caroni blades and the Oregon replacements for a Caroni 5-foot rear discharge finish mower (TC590)

Is there much difference between them? I can get them both for around the same price.

Thanks for any input.

I have a 5' Caroni side discharge and a 6' Landpride, so I don't have the same setup you do. I do have factory blades and Gator blades for both decks. The grass is a different consistency at different times during the mowing season. Depending on the height, how thick and juicy the grass is and probably a couple other factors I don't notice, it seems like the gator blades always work as well and at times a little better than the regular blades.

I like Oregon blades, specifically the mulching style. On my rear discharge mower they seem to reduce windrowing, and on my zero then they just work better.

Thanks for the replies.

Do the mulching blades take noticeably more horsepower to turn? I would like to try them but that would be my only concern with my set up.

"Do the mulching blades take noticeably more horsepower to turn? I would like to try them but that would be my only concern with my set up." I see no problem there. One thing I tell people considering Gator blades is I've not ever had anyone dislike them. They are good blades and there is nothing to lose to give them a try. Feedback in my world is either neutral or positive. For some, they give a big improvement in quality of cut . Some applications have different Gator versions to choose from as well.

tomplum,

Thank you very much for the reply. I will definitely try the Gators.

One last question, for my Caroni I have the choice of G3 or G5 blades. Are the G5 worth the extra money in your experience? I know the G5 have the tungsten fused edges, but I will sharpen them eventually. Is the tungsten ground off on the first sharpening?
