I've been reading through the posts for Caroni flail mowers and noticed that several people had to cut the pto shaft they got with the mower. I know it varies somewhat with tractor used, but was wondering what the final measurements are for the correct length? Thanks

There's no set length; You'll have to measure. My dad & I have both have 40HP tractors. His a Mahindra, mine a Kubota. With his new Caroni TM1900, the PTO shaft length was fine when mounted in his, but when we moved it over to mine we had to shorten it by 2".

There's a video on how to cut a PTO shaft on everythingattachments.com. But, also I think the Caroni manual explains it, too. It's not hard. Hack saw blade for the plastic outer sleeves. And, hack saw blade or cut-off-wheel for the inner metal shafts.

BTW ... You have to cut the ends of both pieces of the shaft for it to work, not just one.

Edit: Here's the video: http://www.everything-attachments.com/Videos/library/ptoshaft.html

everythingattachments.com has a good video on the subject, "How to Measure and Cut any PTO Shaft Properly"

Thanks guys. After looking at the video maybe there is a better way to ask this question. It would help me to know what the distance is, at least on the TM1900 model, from the pin hole on the mower drive shaft out to the pins for the lower arms. In the video he placed a level for a straight edge across the two pins and then measured out from the drive shaft to the edge of the level. Thanks again for any and all responses.
