I want to either build or make myself a carryall for simple hauling of mulch sacks, small wood, and other items that will stack safely for short trips around my place. I have seen them homemade, but thought about buying one. anybody got any good ideas about where to purchase one? I assume I will have to maybe add some basic boards, etc. buckie2

Buckie,

Where are you located in NC? There is a company close to me that will sell the whole thing or just the frame and you supply the wood or metal for the flooring and sides (if you want them). I want to say that TSC sells them as well.

If you have all of the material and equipment to make one; then it would be cheaper and more gradifying. If you don't; then it would most likely be cheaper to buy one. They are not too expensive.

Newton,
You are correct. I looked at one this weekend at TSC, first time I had ever seen one at a TSC. It was large, attached to 3-pt hitch, dumped, and had a tail gate. Kinda expensive I think; it was around $900.00 /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I bought a set of plans from www.how-to-plans.com and built several according to them. I also built a much heavier duty carryall that was based on those plans. If you have access to steel and can weld, they are very easy to build and can be done in an afternoon.

Great tool there Mad!

Will it work as you built it to move pallets (asuming you stay within the weight limits)?

One of the things I've see other places is to have a flat bed surface, and then have "stake holders", like on a trailer frame, around the perimeter, so you can add or remove sides on the carryall. I always thought that was a neat idea.

I bought my carry-all from tsc for 49$ a few years ago. I don't think you can come close to making them for that much.. unless someone gave you the oxy-acet gas, scrap metal, and lots of welding rods and hardware...

The hd dumping unit with a endgate another user mentioned seeing sounds mor elike a rear scoop. ( I have used a rear scoop as a carrier...)

Bolt a few boards or a small pallet to the carryall and you are good to go.. I mounted my 12kw pto generator to mine so it is ready for use when needed / where needed.

Soundguy,
This was more like the type of carryalls put on receiver hitches behind cars, only bigger and made for a 3-pt hitch. First time I had ever seen one at TSC.

He is most likely talking about the kind MadReferee posted and pic of and you are refering to.

And I agree with you, hard to beat $49.00 unless you have the steel and welder.

That design using 2.5" x 1/4" angle is good for 700-900 lbs. I built a similar one using 2" x 3" x 3/16" rectangular tubing that is probably good for 2000 lbs. They move pallets that are within the weight range quite well.

I've never thought of using a carryall for skids... is this practical if you DON'T have a hydraulic toplink to easily keep it level or tilt it as needed?
I recently got a set of "real" forks for my FEL, but sometimes I have two skids to move and don't know if a carryall would work for me.

Thanks

The L-shaped TSC KK carryall is probably your best bet. It's only about $90 with tax and all. Get an old pallet and bolt it to the bottom part of the "L". It's almost a perfect fit. I've a couple of them that Lowes hasn't come to pick up yet out in front of my carriage house right now, here in central Va.

I put some 2x4s around the bottom sides of the pallet on mine and and other 2x4s to form some vertical slots for other 2x4s for sides and put a hinge on the front "side" piece. Just used some old 1 bys attached to the vertical part of the "L" for a backer. For what you want, you mainly just need the carryall with a pallet bolted to it.
