There is a website about them. Do you have any? Here is one my Dad has. AMC Javelin. It has a 360 with 401 heads, balanced, cammed, hi-rise intake, double pumper carb, headers... 727 auto with reverse valve body, 3:55 posi. Used to belong to a friend of the family, who built it. Has a lot of miles on, but was still pretty quick when parked six years ago. I drove it for a couple months; it was fast!

Interiors perfect, but outside could use paint.

Trying to talk Dad out of it...

Oh, you folks in CA... nothing like not having any road salt to deal with! Amazing how many older cars out there still look great!

A car like your AMC around here would be largely junk by now.:(

The local state park has a few houses that back up to it. One house has a barn with an open door and a 70's era Corvette parked there - for decades now. I'm sure there is a story behind it - hope not a sad one.

I occasionally watch the Barrett-Jackson auctions on the Speed Channel. I have been amazed at the number of older low-mileage cars that are auctioned. I'm guessing that a fair number of folks have purchased vehicles and mothballed them as an "investment."

Nope, no rust!

A friend of mine moved out here from Long Island 25 years ago. Brought out his ~70 Olds or Buick big block convertible. I thought that would be cool! He brought it in to work; it sounded really healthy with a big cam. Had a new interior and top. It ran very good; would break the rear tires loose hitting second gear easily. Whoever built the motor and trans did a very good job.

But... It had too much rust... He finally found a west coast car, and swapped parts because the rust would cost too much to repair.

I'm raising my hand and looking for the emoticon for that.

I pulled it out of the 'barn' 3 weeks ago (actually a small garage built to store it) because the 'barn' needed some serious cleaning. It'd been parked in there for almost 20 years. This car used to be our daily driver. Now, at the least it needs a brake job (all the fluid has drained out) and who knows what else. The engine and tranny could be fine (probably less than 15K miles on the rebuilt engine, synthetic oil in it and the tranny).

We bought it in 1971 (it's a '69) when I married and my new wife couldn't drive the stick shift I owned and I was attempting to teach her. At that point, the marriage was in trouble. So I bought this car with an automatic. Still have the car. Still have the wife.

(on edit: it looked like the one RobertN showed until I washed it) ("pulled" means with my PowerTrac, not on it's own power)

I have a 70 Chevelle, 2 dr hardtop small block 327, turbo 350 4.11 gears. I bought this 14 years ago to put the 327 in my dad and I built together. Has some rust, motor runs well though i haven't cranked it in over a year. The restoration is about 1/2 done, but when I married and moved into my house, i moved the car from my dad's nice detached 2 car garage to my dirt floor tractor barn with the intentions of building a shop similar to his. Eight years later, it still sits in the tractor barn with a tarp over it. I think of selling it now and then to someone who can do it justice, but then I remember how excited I was when that 327 cranked for the first time and how quick it was on its maiden voyage. The fact that dad and I worked on it together is reason enough for me to hold on to it. I finally settled into a well paying career about 2 years ago and told myself the first thing I was going to do was build my shop. I drew up the plans and started getting prices and then the wife tells me she is pregnant (man, when I find the sob that did that!!!). We were blessed with a beautiful baby girl on Jan 26 of this year, the shop was not built and the car still sits. I still get my hot rod magazines and watch the car shows on spike tv on sundays, get the urge to work on it and never get to it. Kind of sad, to be honest. I'll gather up some pics and post. Everytime I see a car or truck in a barn I always want to know the story.

My Jag was laid up for the last 10 years or so....

I bought the car when I was living single in SAndy Eggo, spent 4 years doing a rustoration on it, got it running again just in time to get married. Moved to Kansas City, and the climate here is not conducive to a black on black non-A/C English car, plus the new bride wanted nothing to do with it (?!?!?!?) so it got parked in the garage and there it sat.....

Fast forward to a month ago and I decided it was time to either drive it or sell it, but first I had to get it running again. The clutch was stuck so once I got the tank and carbs cleaned out, new plugs, oil and fresh gas it started right up. I rolled it out of the garage, stuck it in first gear, ran it up a bit and with the clutch pedal down let off the gas....Bang!........clutch is working fine, smooth as can be - but what's that god awful noise?

Blew the diff!

So I've been rebuilding the diff, put a taller R&P ratio in it for better mileage and quieter cruising and it's almost back together now. Then I need to make a decision on whether it goes or I go with it....:D

Pics tonight when I get home....
