I've got an old Case 1190 that I acquired not too long ago when I bought my home/property. I didn't get a lot of information on the current maintenance from the previous owner but understood it was up to date. I'm a busy guy so can unfortunately neglect to be on time with regular maintenance. No hour meter on the tractor so can't give any specific usage. I just know I've used it quite a bit making and caring for food plots over the past year. Maybe 50+ hours added to it???
A couple days ago I was plowing along and noticed fuel spraying from the right side. I got to looking and there is a small plate (fuel window?) that is towards the top of the injector? There was a crack that had developed in the gasket. I removed the plate and gasket and cut a new gasket from some rubber and fixed that leak. I did not bleed any lines as I didn't know if that was necessary. It started right back up. Over the next hour or so on the tractor I noticed the HP seemed to be weaker... gradually worsening. It would idle very slow and sound like it was going to die but just barely hang on. At full hand throttle it just didn't have much power but it I'd push down the floor throttle (extra boost) it would seem to run considerably stronger. Hard to describe but with hand throttle all the way forward (when running well) I'd say the floor throttle would give a 20-30% boost in rpm. With the current issues I'd say the floor throttle gives and extra 50% power... Not an overall improvement just relative to the weaker rpm's at full hand throttle. Not sure if any of that helps or even makes sense.
It's blown some pretty light colored smoke since I've gotten it but didn't think much of it. Lots more popping and what I would call "missing" since running poorly. Also the hood has a nice film and some tiny black soot deposits? that are coming from the exhaust.
Engine oil is good and water/antifreeze levels are fine. It's not running hot.
Thinking back I believe my HP loss has probably been a slowly developing thing and it's just recently taken a steeper dive. I'm planning to replace both fuel filters and the air filter to see if that helps. The air filter looks dirty but I've seen lots worse. Was also wondering if there was any additive (I'm a fan of seafoam) that might help clean injectors.
Sorry to ramble but this tractor is something I'm not all that familiar with. I've worked on many gas burner engines but diesels are pretty foreign to me.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Oh, and before I tackle some of this stuff I was planning to do a good power washing to give me a cleaner work environment... Any areas of a diesel that I have to be real careful about not getting water into?
Thanks
