I Have a case 1370 with a broken PTO shaft. Have ordered replacement pto shaft. Is remove and replace procedure same as case 870 agri king or Case 970, 540/1000 pto turn around? That is to remove you turn the snap ring to the flat on the shaft and remove. Then remove/pull broken shaft, install new replacement shaft, then replace snap ring? What size snap ring pliars are required (80 lbs pressure)? Any other tools necessary? Please explain entire procedure in detail. Thanks. speckpw@bellsouth.net

Looking at the parts breakdown on Messick's, it looks like you would remove the seal housing (after draining the oil) and the shaft should come with it. Then it would be removing a snap ring and bearing to get the shaft out of the housing. I've not done this so take a look for yourself at Messick's site.

Thanks Kim, I'm not familiar with Messick's site. Could you provide more specific detail please. I'm new at this big tractor game and have a huge learning curve ahead of me. Ignorance is not bliss. Anxious to learn and will tackle most anything. How much oil is there to drain approx? Where might I find the drain plug? Need to have buckets to drain fluid into. Tools necessary, etc? Please describe seal housing? Messick's site may possibly provide this info? Had all new fluids and filters put in both 970 and 1370 before delivery for ref. Have IT C-203 shop manual (covers both 1370 & 970) but it leaves a lot to be desired -- Thanks - Pete

Pete; There is about 35 gallons according to Tractor Spec. Don't know how accurate that is. Get 6 or 7 good clean 5 gallon buckets to hold the oil. Rig up a hydraulic hose and quick couple end and plug it into the tractor
remote. Other end of the hose in a bucket. Use the tractor to pump the oil out until it won't pump anymore.Takes two people, one handling the buckets and hose, and the other working the valve turning on and off the hydraulic flow. Once it starts spitting air, shut the tractor off. Find the rear most drain plug and get the rest of the oil. My Dad had a 1370 but it came after I left the farm and I was hardly ever around it, so I don't know about the location of the drain plugs. I believe there are 3 on my 1070. Seems like one was almost hidden by the drawbar. Shouldn't be hard to find.
